Recipe thread
I was never a big fan of sushi until yesterday. I went to lunch before going shoe and handbag shopping, and I really fell in love with the stuff - well, all the different types except the one with raw fish.
The "Philadelpia roll" was great (cream cheese in it) and the ones with cooked crab were to die for. I just can't get myself to eat the raw stuff yet. I am working my way up to it - or at least trying to. I've even managed the seaweed wrap and love it, but like I said, everything's got to be cooked.
The wasabi paste was great too, but damn, it'll leave you sweating ALL day because it's so freaking hot, but it's perfect with sushi.
Soooooo....
I'd like to know if anyone has any fantastic recipes for sushi (cooked fish; crab; veggie) and wasabi paste. With or without the seaweed wrap.
I just want to learn how to make it. (and then enjoy it!)
And if anyone doesn't have a receipe but has something else they'd like to share, please by all means, post away. I'm always looking for new ideas in the kitchen, especially simple dishes for the kids.

Katey if you didn't do it mix a little wasabi and a lot of soy sauce together to tone down the wasabi.

From watching the chefs prepare it where I eat it, it looks like it would take a little time, practice, and special tools to prepare. Another issue is getting VERY fresh fish for it.

A lot of the grocery stores and 'world market' type places have sushi sets that come with a recipe book, rolling mat, instructions, the whole nine yards.

There's also a lot of other kits and books on the same site. Worth checking out at least.\\` ` ` ` < ` )___/\

Excuse me,had to google "sushi",so ,let me get this straight, you are buying bait to eat, dayum things must be rough up there

Now ,you take those lil raw fishies, tie them to the bottom of a net, have a beer or two, pull the net up,and you have a dozen crabs to eat.The ones that I ate yesterday had crabmeat,

They look really good. The only prob, Mavrik, and as embarrassing as it is to say this, I don't even know how to properly eat a crab. I don't know how to break it apart, or whatever you call it.

I will have to ask my husband......he makes all different kinds at home. He is a huge sushi fan and eats all of it!
But more importantly...did you find any cute shoes or handbags while out??

Absolutely!
I'd probably be a very wealthy woman if I didn't have so many shoes and handbags.
I saw a Michael Kors bag that I really wanted at TJ Maxx, but I couldn't justify spending $150 on it, so I went across the street to Ross and found a Nine West for $30 (retails for $80). It's one of my fave brands (but I LOVE Aigner) and it's big and roomy - just what I wanted.
And then I found two pair of shoes. I didn't need either one of them. I didn't need the handbag either, but it was one of those "I have to have them".
I got a great deal on the Aerosoles I bought, and I spent a little more than I wanted on the Madeline Stuart shoes, but they had this classic 40's look that really made them stand out.
I have a real weakness when it comes to shoes & handbags.
Anyway, what were we talking about?
Oh, yeah. Sushi, thats right!

I did say ANY recipes. I think KC was giving me a recipe for good shopping tips!

I'll totally change the subject - I won't even talk about sushi anymore.

I give a totally different recipe. It's one of my faves:
Greek Salad
1 head romaine lettuce- rinsed, dried and chopped
1 red onion, thinly sliced
1 cup Kalamata black olives
1 green bell pepper, chopped
2 large tomatoes, chopped
1 cucumber, sliced
1 cup crumbled feta cheese
6 tablespoons olive oil
1 teaspoon dried oregano
1 lemon, juiced
ground black pepper to taste
DIRECTIONS
In a large salad bowl, combine the Romaine, onion, olives, bell peppers, tomatoes, cucumber and cheese.
Whisk together the olive oil, oregano, lemon juice and black pepper. Pour dressing over salad, toss and serve.
Or, if you don't like lemon juice, use vinegar & oil.
