To stop and spend the time to love those closest to you. My grandkids taught me that....I missed so much of my children's lives....the blessing of grandchildren is that you get to see your kids grow up again....especially if you missed a bunch of it the first time around.

I would like my country back. I used to believe that one man could never destroy this country. Not so sure anymore!

My Dad, with help from a razor strop taught me, thou shalt not steal at the age of 5 and my Mom, from the time I can remember till this day, taught me that cleanliness is next to Godliness. And, my little dog Abby has taught me true love and loyalty and there's no such thing as a dumb animal. All of these lessons have stuck with me, but if I were to pick any one person it would be my wife. She has taught me, by setting an example, how to suffer pain without complaining and how to smile and say I feel great, even when feeling lousy. She has also helped me to make some really TOUGH decisions, most of which have turned out right.

There's a crusty old deputy that's now a supervisor at the Sheriff's Dept I started in. The best advice he ever gave me:
You need two things to be a good cop: One, drink black coffee any time of the day. Two, grow a mustache. The rest will fall into place.

    Damned if he wasn't right.

Always let someone you care about know that you love them when you leave...you may never see them again. To this day, I give hugs and tell people I love them when I am leaving them, even if it is only for a day or two.. I STILL regret not telling those who have gone before me one more time, but I also understand that I would regret that no matter what.

Always be honest. Honesty has a) gotten me out of more scrapes than I can count (especially when I was young), and saves me the trouble of remembering/covering up lies. Sure, my life is damn near an open book to people...but I'm fairly carefree anyways (and maybe because of it).

I learned to be careful who you trust, even those closest to you can screw you over.

The person who influenced me the most was my dad. He taught me the work ethics I have. He worked 3 jobs when i was growing up to support a wife in a long term care facility and 7 kids that he raised alone. He was my hero and I followed his footsteps in a way, he was a cop and I went into corrections.

My dad, I miss him every day.

    Lessons

Someone already pointed out the first one I thought of when I first saw this thread. Anyway here are a few that come to mind at the moment:

    1) Life isn't fair.

    2) You can't save people from themselves.

    3) Nobody seems to be very good at predicting the future.

    4) Despite your best efforts, things may not go as planned.

    5) In God we trust, ALL others we check NCIC.

God is correct and smiles on the just as well as the unjust

My father taught me family first, my mother taught me love, my wife taught me humility, my children taught me joy

The most important lesson i've ever been taught is to always keep the people you love close to you, at all times. They will be with you through thick and thin and will help you through.

My mom is my absolute hero. She taught me to always be strong and follow through with what I do. She always told me, "Do what you want to do, don't let anyone discourage you. I will always support you." She also taught me to always be the bigger person.

Jake (213th) has also taught me that there is a man out there for me. That love does exist and is forever...
May you rest in peace Daddy and may you never hurt again. I love you and miss you and can't wait to see you again.

Always take the chance to talk to your loved ones, and tell them you love them.

Life is short and unpredictable. So make sure you make the time for the special people in your life, and forget the ones who aren't. My little sister, may she rest peacefully, taught me to first and formost, not to judge people, but to help them as they need it.

My dad is probably the sole most influential person in my life, he has taught me and continues to teach me everything.
He who has the money, signs the cheques.
He who signs the cheques, makes the rules.
He who makes the rules, has the power.
He who has the power, has the money.
