I try to pick times when the theater is not crowded so I can have both sides.

We have a drive in theatre, so there aren't any armrests
(Actually I haven't been there yet, LOL). I guess I take the right side arm rest.

I always sit at an isle seat because I'm a little on the tall side, so I use whatever is on the outside. Then, I cleverly insert my arm under my wife's arm, and hold her hand. That way, I get both! For the morning will come. Brightly will it shine on the brave and true, kindly upon all who suffer for the cause, glorious upon the tombs of heroes. Thus will shine the dawn.

Reca, you must go to crappy theaters. I go to ones that have two arm rests per chair as well as cup holders."Sometimes people need a little help. Sometimes people need to be forgiven. And sometimes they need to go to jail."

The right has your cup holder, so I say the right.
The arm rest on the left end of the aisle never has a cup holder, and every seat gets at least one cup holder.
That said, I only sit where I have two spaces on either side of me.I'm your huckleberry...
