That is one thing that I have learned in our business. If an officer complain about something we are told to overcome it. If a dispatcher, court worker, ect. complain about something the street cop is doing mountains are moved and seas are parted. I guess it is nice having a judge or admin to send your gripe to. I have an ETicket system in my car that I can't use while working a contract car for cities. Guess what, that is all I do five days a week. The reason, the magistrate's office can't make sure those cities get thier peice of each ticket. That's right $$$. Probably $1 a ticket. So the county forked over God only knows how much to install the hardware and train me. For what, to make the magistrate officer workers and these poor poor town happy. What's next? Laser disk players in the car.

One thing I've seen happen with new technology is that it makes a backroom job like records easier -- at the expense of the street cop. That's backwards. Yes, software should simplify those record keeping and reporting tasks. But it should either be transparent, or done in the office, not by the beat cop. It's kind of amazing to me... we automate things, which would free up a person in records, right? Nope. Somehow, the beat cop is doing more of the old record tasks, and there are still the same number of folks in records... doing less.
In the same vein, if you're going to increase what gets documented (which I actually agree with; lots of stuff that used to be closed no report is now documented at least with info on the call logs), make it easy for the cops doing it. Don't add 3 more reports...Voting against incumbents until we get a Congress that does its job.

When it comes to enforcement tools, some of the crap is over-rated, give me a large screw driver and panel popper and let me tear stuff up!!!! We sometimes rely on technology to do our job for us, when it comes down to it, good ol police work and searching count for more!!!!
