Hurricane and Aftermath Volunteering
Anyone have a list of volunteer agencies (besides the Red Cross and Blackwater) who will be down South during the hurricane and aftermath when/if it hits? A few of the guys in my department, and myself, are looking to come down there and lend a hand...--"D.B.A.D." --Me

Try contacting the Louisiana State Police Headquarters. Last time all you pretty much needed was a badge, commission and weapon.Do not war for peace. If you must war, war for justice. For without justice there is no peace. -me

Came in Monday,
I spoke with lewis yesterday afternoon and he said they were getting their "Behinds spanked"as I was talking to him there were trees flying around him and deputies getting stuck (could hear his radio as we spoke)he could not get signal on his laptop,he and his are ok though (or were at that time),he got a lil of what I had for Katrina.
I only got 60 -70 mph winds with gusts to about 90,minor damage, some flooding, lotsa driving in that crapToday is a lil worse than yesterday (for me) believe it or not,we have had tornadoe warnings all day,and they are getting more frequent(watching the news right now),but at least I never lost power, though phone /internet/radio is intermittent.
Our fancy new radio system obtained after Katrina is a total washout(700 mhz trunked Motorola system),It is as hit and miss as cell phones.

I've been reading that the new 700 Meg system is total crap. Our partol div. has them, and they're in the process of putting money aside to transition the entire department to them.
Motorola, of course, says that the system is the greatest thing since sliced bread, but many departments that have gone to them are saying the same thing you are.
That is all part of the interoperability thing that started up after 9/11. Ain't very interoperatable if it don't work when you need it to.
