What kind of leaves on the left?
The oaks leaves could be related to Charles II, as could the crown.Molly Weasley makes Chuck Norris eat his vegetables.

It's Oak and Olive, and the crown is British Royal, but not sure which.
It resembles the heraldry for Elizabeth II.
I believe it to be police related, but it may be military. I was hoping one of our commonwealth members might have an idea.I'm your huckleberry...

It's definately not the beret badge for the redcaps (Royal Military Police). They have a big "ER" on theirs.
Post it on here, maybe someone there can identify that badge for you.

Does it have a maker's mark? You might be able to get information through the maker.
Italy also has associations with the oak and olive.Molly Weasley makes Chuck Norris eat his vegetables.

Well I can't tell you what it is but.
It's not the cap badge of a current British military unit.
It's almost certainly not the insignia of a British Police force. The only one with a sword on it is the three swords of the Essex Police which had the county emblim in the middle.
The presense of a straight sword or dagger on a British military insignia almost always denotes an infantry or special forces unit.
It looks to me to be an infantry cap badge or insignia possibly of one of the county infantry regiments that has been disbanded or amalgimated between 1945 and the present day."all that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing" Edmund Burke.
"the world is a dangerous place place to live; not because of the people who are evil, but because of the people who do not do anything about it" Albert Einstein

I've never seen that on any state uniform over here.

Sorry can't help,
All I can say is its reasonably old. It's too good a quality to be recent! It also looks as if it is actual metal, we're too cheap to use anything but silver plastic now!
It doesn'r resemble any current police cap badge,at least I don't recall it.
As Dave says so many units and regiments have now been disbanded and amalgamated it could be quite a trawl. There were also many different Police forces up to the 60's and 70's even with each city being a force in their own right quite often.
One suggestion might be to contact the Imperial War Museum and send them the picture to see if they can help.
Good luck.the sole advantage of power is that you can do more good.
