To keep them clean and the sex acts down to a minimum. Service station attendants want to know who is using their restrooms especially if they are out of eyesight.
Only some are locked where I am at. If they don't let me use the restroom as a paying customer, I never go back there.
Choose The Right. When you're doing whats right, then you have nothing to worry about.

Years ago when I was going to school, I worked at a gas station and had to clean the bathrooms at the end of the day. I swear that the women were afraid to let their butts touch the seat, and would bend over and aim from the door. It looked like someone shot the walls with brown buckshot!

The reason they lock the bathroom doors at gas station bathrooms is so your child doesn't go into the bathroom and come back a few minutes later and asks you for a couple of quarters and then you ask why, and they say so they can buy a balloon and you say from where, and you say the bathroom. And then you have to tell them the short story about the birds and the bees and they are only like 4yrs old.
I don't have children, but I do know the child who did this 31 years ago.
