It worked for me. I think it's the based on mathematics, not psychology--it's like a chess game where there are only certain positions possible within a limited number of moves.

It's based on the number of squares available, followed by some multiple or factor of that number. For example, when there are four squares left arranged in a square, he says 9. It is impossible for you to land on his "prediction" on the ninth number unless you go diagonal, which he said not to. The number 9 was based on the fact that there are only certain squares you would be starting from based on the game up to that point.
