That's what we got hit with and I wasn't impressed. Got sprayed, ran 20 yards, did a set of straight punches, ran 20 yards and did elbow strikes, then 20 yards and did baton blows, then had to run about 100 yards to the staging area they had for us (Wouldn't let us wash off. We had to ride the pain through, then got to go wash off).

It wasn't until we got into the staging area and got walking around that then it kicked in. It sucked yes, and was hot, especially being a pale-skinned redhead. I think we only had one snotter the whole time.

I'm glad it wasn't Freeze +P or Cap-Stun from everything I've heard about those.

i heard security equipment corporation the makers of sabre red, has gotten alot of complaints about the water based. i guess there is a difference in strength between the oil based sabre red and water based formulas. ive never had a failure with my sabre red till i switched to water based. the reason it washed out so easy cause the base is water had it been oil it wouldve stuck around longer.we carry water based because my agency and local police agencies issue there peoople tasers.

freeze +p is an oc/cs mix.sabre red is straight oc. your trying to compare a straight oc to an oc/cs mix the effects are gonna be different when you add cs to the mix.

bigdog21 usually the oc kicks in a lot faster than what you described. Not saying your experience is wrong. When I got sprayed I thought hey this is not so bad and about 2 seconds after my face was on fire and my eyes felt like sand got thrown into them. Got sprayed with the red can stuff but we use the Cap Stun from Zarc. I also had to fight for 5 minutes with the baton , no running as there were too many trees and sure as heck someone would have run into one of them pine trees. The propellant is what is flamable as most use the alcohol base. It is not suppose to ignite unless the arresstee is saturated in oc spray. As far as the oil base it does stay longer and the reason most departments use the water base as it is easier to decontaminate yourself in the event of back spray and the arrestee can be decontaminated easier in the field.

dont let the stuff fool you. ive been sprayed about a dozen times, mostly for CERT team recertification when i was a C/O, and once when i joined the police department.

ive never had a problem completing any of the obstacle courses that i had to run following the spray with "cap-stun" as a C/O. as a police officer, when i was in the academy i was sprayed in the face on video with the "sabre red". instructor bet i couldnt keep my eyes open and count to 30. i smiled, counted to 30 staring him in the face then walked off to the hose. then once i started cleaning off, it really burned, way worse then any of times i was ever sprayed with cap-stun.

my point is, the stuff doesnt usually seem to incapacitate people when you need it to in the heat of the battle, but its nice when it finally takes effect after its all said and done.

ive sprayed a lot of people. some acted like it never happened, others went down right away. you never know how its gonna effect them. i know to most guys its an awful day in the academy when you get sprayed, but dont fool yourself into thinking its the end all of all altercations, cause it may have zero effect.

to me its more of an accessory than a practicality.

i rarely use oc for a one on one encounter I mainly use it to break up fights, I use my baton for an attack on my person or my taser.
