I'm still laughing that McKinney had the gall to try a run. I'd vote Obama over her if they were my only choices.

    TV networks project Pennsylvania | 8:10 p.m.

ABC and NBC project Obama has won the battleground state of Pennsylvania and its 21 electoral votes. Heading into Election Day, Obama held a comfortable 10-point lead in the polls over McCain. Obama's campaign invested heavily into Sen. Biden's home state, with more than 60 offices throughout the state. The last time Pennsylvania went red was in 1988.

Obama wins Connecticut, Delaware, District of Columbia, Illinois, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, and New Jersey (AP). These 7 states plus D.C. give Obama another 78 total electoral votes. Meanwhile, McCain has won Oklahoma and Tennessee, giving him a total of 34 electoral votes (AP).

NBC and CBS project McCain will win South Carolina's 8 electoral votes. While Obama's primary win gave him a big boost against Sen. Hillary Clinton, the state has not voted a Democrat for president since 1976.

CBS and Fox project McCain will win West Virginia and its 5 electoral votes. McCain had a comfortable 9-point lead over Obama going into the vote. George W. Bush took the state handily in both 2000 and 2004.

Obama has won Vermont's 3 electoral votes while McCain has won Kentucky's 8 electoral votes (AP). In 1992, Bill Clinton turned Vermont blue after years of GOP rule, and the state has voted a Democrat for president ever since. In recent elections, Kentucky twice voted for George W. Bush and Bill Clinton.

According to AP, "six in 10 voters picked the economy as the most important issue facing the nation. None of the other issues on the list -- energy, Iraq, terrorism and health care -- was picked by more than one in 10."

I'm interested in how the pollsters can call a state with such "certainty" before even half the votes have been counted. Pennsylvania has been called already? How? And what about my absentee ballott? I know Oklahoma is a super red state and has been a feather in McCain's cap for quite a while, but when exactly does someone open up my envelope and count my vote?

As an aside, I think they outta make ALL VOTING absentee-style. Send a ballot to every single registered voter and say "you have to stick this sumbitch in the mailbox by 4pm on this date (like they do with IRS returns) for it to count." No more long-ass lines, no more fake black panthers standing outside supressing turnout..plus I betcha they'd get close to a 75% turnout. Don't they do this in Washington or Oregon? I'm going to be absentee voting from now on! Way easier (plus, on the lesser-known "Would you like Judge Mike Rotch to keep his seat on the bench" topics that I hadn't even heard of, I was able to do a bit of research first to make sure I could cast an informed vote).

Generally they don't even count absentee ballots unless the election is close enough for them to make a difference.

I think everyone doing mail in ballots opens up more avenues for fraud. You should have to appear in person with a photo id. I have no problem making it a holiday so everyone can vote without any trouble.

I have to agree... WTF is wrong when they count 15-20 % of the votes and then call that state

that's a good point. I was visiting my grand in-laws in Kansas over the weekend and they said they'll get a choice at the polling place if they want to use the "computer machine" (yes, that is a quote) or a paper ballot. Of course, they'll choose the paper ballot. Maybe in the next few years we'll see interweb voting..it's a shame that they would need to make voting more convenient, as it's something that ALL Americans should do, but some are too lazy to drag their asses to the polling place.

Is it amazing to anyone else seeing the news say things like, "with 3% of the precincts reporting in XX State, we are projecting XX candidate the winner..." ???

Each site has different results, and on CBS a few minutes ago they had McCain with 124 electoral votes, Obama with 194 and the popular vote 50/50.

I know! I really wonder how many people watch the media coverage and decide there's no point in going out to vote.

We need to do away with the electoral college. We can and SHOULD just be counting the popular vote now.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with the electoral college.

That is the greatest myth the left has ever tried to perpetrate - but you won't hear them bitching about it this time.

What we need to do is educate voters. There are actually people - a lot of them - who believe they will be taken care of the moment Obama wins.

"I don't have to worry about gas in my car, I don't have to worry about my mortgage..."

Obama will be a black Jimmy Carter. I'm just sad it has to happen to the country because people do not learn from history.

Whats wrong with the popular vote though? I'm not saying your wrong, because I guarantee you know more about politics than I do, I'm just curious.

I live in MN. I voted for John McCain, Obama has won Minnesota. In my mind, my vote means essentially dick now because it's gone toward the popular vote, which doesn't count for anything.

I think there is something wrong with that.

Without the electoral college the campaigns would only concentrate on larger urban centers. LA, New York, Chicago.....getting the picture now?
