Have fun! I have a neat accident reconstruction calculator if you need one.

My brother is with the BPS, he used to work the academy. Now, of course, he's all over the place.
Good luck
Its an abbreviated acaemy for laterals. The entire academy has been reduced to 18 weeks. Our regular police academy is 9 weeks also. That why I get to skip the first 9 because its the excact same as our police academy.Quote:

It is good that they have a fast-track. They have the same thing here in Illinois. If you are certified (480 hour basic), have 3 full-time years with the same agency, and have an associates degree, you can attend a 12 week State Police Academy. If not, it is a 4-year degree and 26 weeks of hell.
Good luck and enjoy it.
Its still 9 weeks of hell. Very military like with 10 miles a week running with DT and other mixed in. 2 Inspections daily of your room and you. Everything from the locker to the desk has to be in order. You are either marching or running everywhere you go, no exceptions. No water or anything else in left in the sink, shower etc. you get the idea.
Good luck!
Thanks
Congratulations and good luck, LAW!!!! :cheer2:
They have the same thing in St. Louis, ours is 9 weeks for retreads but for a newby, it is I think 28 or so weeks now. In the 60s I had to do 16 weeks in order to graduate. Most depts I see now are suffering for qualified personnel and are willing to make concessions to obtain them. Sometimes I and others have witnessed some depts are too eager to get officers and get very POOR and underqualified personnel. They pay for it more later!! Take care and Be safe all, don't forget to C.Y.A. Retiree
I agree. The quantity of officers has gone down but mostly the quality sucks now. Thats one reason im going to the State level. Its ridiculous of what departments are hiring these days. SC is about 200 troopers short but still have a strenuous process to get hired. They dont make exceptions which I think is a good thing. The class I am merging in to has 38 non-certified officers in it now. There are 25 of us pre-certifieds jumping in.
Best of luck to you. :)
Keep us posted man on how things are going. Also how long you going ot have to FTO for? I would imagine that your FTO program would also be shortened.
2 weeks FTO.
Thats not to bad then. Whats the normal length for FTO for the Troopers the ones that are not pre-certified?Quote:
