Ebay
I was wondering how many members have bought items off of ebay. I have several items and have always had a good experience with the products. My most recent purchase is........ http://www.pelican.com/lights_detail.php?recordID=7060

I have not yet. I can't bring myself to try because I don't want to get screwed over and have the frustration of wanting to deal with it.
A former work partner of mine got screwed over for a $15 bag of tools. Savin the money to me isn't worth the aggrivation. I'd rather run to Walmart and buy it new and know I've got exactly what I want.I'm not ruining your life, you are, and I'm just going to write a short story about it.

I use ebay all the time both as a seller and as a buyer. I have had bad experiences but paypal has always backed me and I have gotten my money back when product was bad.
On a side note how much did you pay for the flashlight on ebay?

I only use PayPal and only purchase items from sellers who have a good record.

I've purchased a few things on ebay and have never had any problems with the merchandise or the transactions. I've even bought a couple of airline discount coupons which, including what I paid for the coupons, saved me about $75 on two airline tickets.
My most recent purchase was a Sonicare toothbrush (brand new and still in the package, before anyone says ewwww
), with free express shipping I got it for $50 less than retail. I always use Paypal for my ebay transactions and I look at the seller's reputation.

I buy fishing stuff and books often and have not been screwed yet.

I've never used ebay--I'm paranoid about being scammed. Even if a seller or buyer has a good reputation, it's possible the reputation was artificially inflated by gaming the system, and I don't have enough time to read through all the comments and rules to figure out whose reputation is real and whose is not. I don't own anything expensive enough to be worth the trouble of selling on ebay, and I would only buy from ebay if I needed to buy something I couldn't find from a large, reputable business. I haven't run into either situation yet.

how much did you get the light for?

I've used it a bunch. I always use PayPal. I've never had a problem.
I usually just use businesses with "Buy It Now" options. It's the easiest way and least amount of hassle. I always check reputations. That which does not kill me, better start fucking running.

Reca I purchased the Pelican for $103.95, plus like $11.00 for shipping. I believe most companies are selling them for $159.00 and up.

I use it often, and have only been scammed a couple of times.

I've used E-Bay several times, and like others have said, i always check the reputation of the seller. Always use someone with 99.0 or above rep, and buy through Paypal.
Haven't had any problems yet.
Couple of examples:
Bought a Motorola Bluetooth earpiece that retails for around $70, and got it - new in the bubble pack - for $9.95. Works great.
Bought a computer program that retails over $400, and got it for $70. Again, new in the manufacturer's wrapping. I installed it on both my home 'puter and my work 'puter, and use it every day. No problems on either one.
Bought a couple of books for way less than retail. All new, not second hand.
I don't play the bid game, but rather use the "Buy now" option.
So far, so good. No complaints from me.

I've used it a lot over the past 9 years, and have only had a few bad experiences. Yeah there is a slight bit of risk in doing online transactions, but I've saved SOOOO much money using eBay that it's amazing. Now, I would never buy, say.....a car on eBay, but I've gotten tons of other stuff. The most expensive thing I've gotten on there was $1300. And since paypal has up to $2000 protection, I didn't feel too nervous about going for it. I've never filed a protection claim with paypal, so I don't know if that is like jumping through a bunch of hoops or not.

I am a shopaholic and frequent ebay quite often. UPS, FedEx and USPS know me well!

I use paypal as well and there buyer protection program is very good. I have sold in the past, but not lately. It is a good way to get rid of stuff, but it can be time consuming. Ebay and Paypal fees can add up as well.

I have a good friend that bought and sold a lot of stuff on eBay. Though he mainly buys baseball cards to supplement his collection, he has been known to buy cars, too. He usually buys blocks, bulk shipments, etc. Takes out what he needs, then sells off the rest or stashes it for later perusal. On occasion he has bought single cards depending on what he needs at the moment.
Buying cars on eBay opens up its own can of worms. Making the appointment to go and inspect the car and shipping are the big ones. So far he hasn't been screwed too much and has been satisfied with what he has bought. He has traveled several hundreds of miles to go and pick up a vehicle that he has purchased. I don't think he has gone cross country, though. He generally likes to stick to the west coast but I could see him going as far east as the Rockies in the summertime. He pays strict attention to the reputation of the seller and will not buy anything of value from anyone with little or bad rep.

I've spent a good bit of $$ through eBay, never been burned. Most recent purchase was a FieldSheer jacket that retails for $170 or so, I picked it up for $46 after shipping. Brand new.
