Kill Bin Laden
I just got done with a good book, "Kill Bin Laden: A Delta Force Commander's account of the hunt for the world's most wanted man."
The author is "Dalton Fury" but it's an alias like the names of the men he writes about. Fury was the senior commander at the battle of Tora Bora in 2001 when Delta Force, a few Green Berets, and some British SBS went into the mountain fortress for Bin Ladin. Tora Bora frustrated and defeated the Soviet Army but Fury and a handful of operators led a bunch of Afghan goat herders with AK's in there and routed Al Qaeda. The book documents the blow by blow of the battle and it was really fascinating.
After reading the book I'm convinced that assinine political orders from above shackled the men and aided bin Laden's escape.
It's a great story and was tough to put down. I highly recommend it, especially if you are into military history at all. That which does not kill me, better start fucking running.

"Dalton" is taking it pretty hard from his compatriots in the special operations community for sharing his story - folks who are valiant heroes, but sometimes forget they are civil servants like us.
The book is excellent.I'm your huckleberry...

That's a real shame too. He certainly isn't a glory hound and was very humble about his own role. It's such a pivotal battle it deserves to be told and our leaders must learn the lessons in that. Without him telling the story those lessons and the importance of that battle would probably never be told. Accurately anyway.

Many operators hold the belief that what they do is a secret from the American people, and as I have said have forgotten that they are but heroic civil servants.
If you traverse the bulletin boards where they congregate, "Dalton's" name is mud.
I also believe that to be a shame.I'm your huckleberry...
