Just heard an original one . . . .
Stopped a guy for blowing a red light and almost hitting me. He said this as I was giving him his ticket; "They should put up a sign to let you know you have to stop for the red light!" He acted like he meant it - there needs to be signs at red lights telling you to stop at red lights.
I could barely contain myself.

why did you contain yourself??? LOL
Kind of like the guy who told me he only did the illegal u-turn cause he didnt see me. Yah..ok...as long as a cop isnt there..then all is fair game.

I stopped a guy once and asked for his license. He tried to explain to me that in the state of Oregon, you aren't required to have a license to drive your own car.....

Numerous times Ive heard the reason for speeding and/or stop signs was because they didn't see me there!!! I always ask them so its ok to do it if the Police aren't around?? They usually quickly backpedal the statement, but they were serious.

I was babysitting a newly installed stop sign one night at an intersection because we were getting so many complaints from residents in the neighborhood about drivers blatantly disregarding the sign. After writing about 15 citations , including one to one of the people who lived in the area and had called the Chief to complain about the violations
, I stopped this lady and explained to her why I had pulled her over. She was very irate and asked me when had they installed a stop sign in that direction at the intersection. I explained to her that that the stop sign had been put there approx. 1 month ago. She said that there outta be a light to warn you about the newly erected stop sign. Now what's funny about this is that under the stop sign attached to the pole was a flashing yellow caution light. I nodded my head back toward the intersection and the yellow glow and said to her " Lady , what do you want , runway lights?"

It NEVER fails....the ones who call to complain about speeders or stop sign violations are ALWAYS the ones caught. We had a community meeting a few months back where someone brought up to me the fact that people are speeding past a park when kids are in it after school. So, we (naturally) set up zero tolerance3 enforcement in the area. Guess what? Within the first 5 stops we got the person that complained in the meeting....doing 45 in a 25
Sweet.

Jeez, you guys are lucky. I stop people for all these reasons and when I approach the vehicle and ask for a license, they just shrug and tell me no habla englieesh....... no license, no green card, no insurance, but they have $30,000 trucks and cars... I'd like to say there should be a law against it, but there is, it just isn't enforced. We now have an ICE unit at our county jail, and when we get a certain amount of illegals, we ship them home. They're usually back here before the slow ass van that delivered them is.
The six o'clock ruleI tell them to act according to the six o'clock rule, a phrase that causes most of them to say, "Huh?"
I tell them to use this little test before they decide to do something. If they were to do what they're thinking about, and it became the lead story on the six o'clock news, would they be proud? Would their department be proud, and would their family be proud? It's a simple way to live your life both personally and professionally.

I had a good one last night of this caliber.
Start of the shift I go out with a suspicious vehicle in a church lot. While talking to the guy I see his 30 day temp tags expired 4/18. I mention to him that he'll likely receive a citation if the car is on the roadway, and he should leave it parked and get a ride.
Fast forward an hour and I'm dispatched to a disturbance at one of the apt complexes. I show up and find my buddy with the expired tags is the disturbance. Ask him how his car got there, he tells me he drove, and further advises that he passed me on his way there. I noted seeing a similar vehicle earlier, and confirmed it was him. As I'm scratching out the cite for the expired plate he asks, "dude, c'mon, can't I just get a warning? I had to drop my insurance just to save the money for my plates!! I can't afford a ticket too.." I politely informed him that I "warned" him not to drive it before. Dumbass...he'll end up suspended for no insurance now too.
He was kind enough when we were standing around waiting for a ride to offer to let me search his car. I hadn't even implied that I wanted to, and he just offers. Dumbass then acts like I kicked his dog when I took him up on the offer. I was hoping to come up with some dope out of that and complete the trifecta.
