Anyone doing anything to protect themselfs?
Hasn't hit CO yet..but they expect it. I guess this is the ONLY good reason to be unemployed at the moment.

Swine rockets in flight, *boom* baaa-con delight
See what happens when you get me thinking about flying pigs? I expect bacon to start falling like manna from heaven!
Nope, haven't given much more than a passing thought to the new flu virus being passed around. People are germ and virus laden all the time, might be a reminder to keep up standing hygiene practices, but nothing more for this civi. Terrible thing for those who get the virus and I wish them the best.
Last I knew cars still killed more people than flu, and the less glamorous yearly flu strains kill 15,000 people or so in this country alone. Then you have all the leading forms of death to worry about, like heart attacks. Going by the risk numbers the best way to survive this era of swine flu, and beyond, is to buckle up and eat more vegetables.
Lame attempt at trying to put it in perspective...
And now that I've had my mini rant, back to the original question.

A lot of students at a major university that I work closely to are wearing masks to protect themselves....is it really that serious? They say there are 7 possible cases of swine out of the university...

Stuff like this usually doesn't worry me at all but for some reason I have an uneasy feeling with this one. Might be the fact that Stephen King's "The Stand" is one of my favorite books.

Thanks - someone sent that to me

Seems to me that this thing is becoming very overblown worldwide.
What we seem to have is an outbreak of flu that is killing fewer (or about as many) people as the regular old flu. Plus, people seem to be getting over it faster. I think as long as they follow up with a vaccine this Fall, we'll be ok.
The hysteria might be the result of a hyper-vigilant post-Katrina emergency response system in search of a disaster. It's better to err on the side of caution and the Tamiflu stocks probably need renewing anyway , but I hope the hysteria this is generating doesn't harm an already-sick economy. Certainly, Mexico will have their tourism industry decimated, even though Swine Flu is probably the least you have to worry about in Mexico.

The "old fashioned" flu kills between 30,000 - 50,000 people in the United States every year. AIDS, cars, cancer and even syphilis kills more people that the big bad Swine Flu has so far. People just want to be stampeded like a bunch of cows. They're waiting for the next Big Bad Scary to come along so they came scream and run around in circles.
And no I'm not doing anything differently. Almost everyday I come into contact with somebody who has some type of deadly or potentially deadly infectious disease. HIV, Hepatitus C, Whooping Cough even Tuberculosis. They city where I work (and live) has a large percentage of it's population living below the poverty level. Manyof those folks are citizens of Mexico. Others are just drug users and so on. If I was some type of Howard Huges I would never have gone into law enforcement.
I like the photo by the way.
