I'm bored!!
I'm working an off duty detail and I'm really bored right now......not that I want something to happen mind you. Working a construction site at a horse track, there building a Casino on site. The construction project started about a week ago so its still new. The worse part is there are 2 of us here, but were on opposite sides of the place so we cant even chat. Well I only have 3 more hours to go!!!

I am bored but for a different reason - Since my Chief is pissed off at me and said don't come back till he tells me to come back, I don't know what to do with myself. After a year of Reserving every weekend, it's almost unbearable not to have anything to do, yet there's a lot I COULD be doing. I just don't want to do anything else. I could have gone to my shooting match this morning, but I don't even want to do that. I think I'll just spend the day in bed watching TV or surfing the net.
You should take a couple of cheap GMRS/FRS radios with you everywhere so you can chat with each other without running up your cell phone hours, and works with more than two people. You can get them at Wal-Mart. They come in handy for any communication you want to do without going through the police channels.
Only trouble is, there's very few GMRS that are really encrypted - Even if you set the Privacy Code, they can be picked up with a scanner or other GMRS radios which have the privacy feature turned off. The privacy feature only controls the squelch.

Ahhhh.... Here's the GMRS radio I saw that has true voice scrambling (as opposed to those stupid privacy codes), so you and your construction-watching buddies can talk to each other and not worry about who hears it

Yea it was a good detail, just dragged on. If they want to pay 2 of us to sit 150yards apart of each other in a large parking lot...who am I to complain? Once the foundation is in it will be different, then they will be going 24hrs a day building it. They want the whole place done (105,000sq ft) before the Super Bowl and Pro Bowl come to town this season.

Baaad things have happened to me when those words have been spoken, baaad things. I said them once as a young officer and 5 minutes later I was working a murder/suicide where the innocent victim was a pregnant female and her 7 year old son was also shot but survived. I've noticed that too... If it's quiet for hours, we joke about the radio being broken, then all of a sudden Dispatch is sending people on three or four calls at once.
That's unusually high volume for our area, but ten or twenty things going at once closer to Dallas would be considered "nothing happening".
