Hdope this makes sense. It seems that Chicago is suing in that the recent Supreme Court ruling on the 2d Amendment ONLY applies to Washington DC and not the US of A. Using this argument, wouldn't it be fare to state that ALL of the Amendments only apply to Washington, DC???
I mean, if the Court ruled that the right to bear arms is for Wash DC, and doesn't apply to the other states (as Chicago states), then the right to Free Speech, ect doesn't apply to Chicago.
Am I right or wrong???

Interesting question. The DC case was narrowly applied to that local law regarding Amendment II in the district, not the amendment itself as I read the summaries of the decision. This question of amendments only applying to DC is new to me, quite curious how that decision read now.

Strange, I thought the Bill of Rights and the Constitution were written, ratified and implemented long before Washington DC was even formed. Silly me!!!Be courteous to all, but intimate with few, and let those few be well tried before you give them your confidence.

It was a narrowly defined decision that was limited to the DC gun ban. To the best of my knowledge there has never been a ruling that addressed the 2nd Amendment applying to the states. The current SC in many of their decisions have kept it confined just to the issue at hand. You now have conflicting Appeals Court decisions as to whether it applies to the states so I'm pretty sure the SC will hear it.

When circuit courts diverge, as with these cases - it usually means a SCOTUS case is coming.
I think the 7th circuit will be reversed.I'm your huckleberry...

It's going to be along and laborious trip before this thing is finally firmed up. Hopefully in our favor. I don't like Chicago.
