Texas contract worker killed by tire
Here's a similar incident by us yesterday, except with a road worker - This one didn't end so good:
Texas contract worker killed by tire | AP Texas News | Chron.com - Houston Chronicle
LEWISVILLE, Texas — A road crew worker is dead after a 200 pound tire came off a tanker truck and struck him.
Lewisville police Capt. Todd Taylor identified the victim as 52-year-old state contract worker J. Pedro Garcia.
The accident happened Monday when a truck carrying flammable liquid lost its first right rear wheel just after crossing the I-35 southbound bridge over Lewisville Lake.
That tire struck two vehicles. Taylor said the truck continued for about half a mile when the second wheel came off and it struck the worker who was outside of his vehicle.
An air ambulance flew Garcia to a hospital where he later died.
Manager Robert Sorenson said the truck company, Safety-Kleen, is cooperating with police during the investigation.

"It's a great life. You risk your skin catching killers and the juries turn them loose so they can come back and shoot at you again. If your honest , your poor your whole life. And , In the end , you wind up dying all alone on some dirty street. For what? For nothing. For a tin star."
Far from being a handicap to command, compassion is the measure of it. For unless one values the lives of his soldiers and is tormented by their ordeals , he is unfit to command.

Wow. That's one of the reasons why I hate doing stops on the Interstate. Well okay I never actually considered such a thing happening, but you get my meaning. Boy that was something else.

Talk about seeing your life flash before your eyes. That was a little bit too close for comfort there. I'll bet the pucker factor was off the scale on that one. I hope some truck mechanic caught hell for this. Aren't commercial drivers supposed to check their rigs to prevent something like this from happening?
