Some States like Florida have opted for the Romeo and Juliet law, google it and take a read. Under those guidelines I could see it changed.
Just because your sign off after you're shift is done, doesn't mean that it's over and put blinders on. You're a cop 24/7 wether you like it or not. If thats something you can't handle, you should find a new line of work!

While teens are maturing physically faster, I don't think they are maturing either socially or mentally faster.

One way to get'em to work, though XBox sales will plummet. Hey, maybe it'd kill MySpace and Facebook
I'm not entirely kidding though. Modern society wouldn't stand for a 16yo boy marrying a girl of 14 and setting up house like grandpappy did just a very few generations back, instead we call that perversion and our coddling of "kids" to keep them immature well into their 30s enlightened. (all while living with mom and having booty calls in the basement)

No, while they physically mature faster, they are still mentally the same as when I was growing up. Still have the same and more problems getting through the teenage years without saddling unwanted pregnancies to it. Of course, I know that they are going to continue to have sex, that goes without saying. I also think that lowering the age will also increase the possibilities of pedophiles preying on kids and being able to get away with it because the age of consent would make it legal.

No. The other option would be to create neglect laws for parents/legal guardians of teens (or younger) who have underage sex...
