An update on my situation
Hello all,
I no longer have access to LEO-only forums so I thought this would be the appropriate place to post this. It's now been roughly two weeks since I my LOD injury/separation from my agency.
My shoulder feels better, but is still nowhere near 100%. I've been to physical therapy twice now, and will continue to go 3x a week for as long as the doctors says to. The orthopaedist told me during my exam last week that I have a labral tear and biceps tendon inflammation. I had an MRI done on Saturday, and I should know the results (which will determine the severity of this injury) tomorrow. This will also determine if I will only continue with PT, or will have to have surgery. Recovery with either method is roughly 3-4 months.
The doctor's statement was, "I don't think you'll be able to work for a while."
However, on the job front, things are looking up. (That is really frustrating considering I currently cannot work!) I have spoken with the brass at my old PD and they would love to have me back, as they are very short on experienced officers right now. I also spoke to a city councilman I know from an adjacent community who told me he'd be happy to provide a letter of recomendation to the sheriff there. This latter agency is the largest in the area, with civil service, and it also has several specialty units that I could later qualify for.
That's basically it for now. I've been keeping my sanity by doing small chores around the house that have been neglected while I was working. I'd still rather be back on the job, though!

Get yourself a workmen's comp lawyer. You probably have a couple of causes for action... especially if you have any trouble getting the medical bills paid.

Yeah, I'd go talk to a lawyer if they didn't give you full disability - A lawyer worth his salt usually won't charge anything to listen to your situation and indicate if they might can take it on contingency.
I also don't understand why they won't hold your comission even if you can't work - It's not like it costs them anything to call you a Reserve temporarily, and then restore you back to full-time when you are able to go back to work.
I think it's lousy of them to terminate you because you got injured, unless they have a good disability plan.
