New OR Feature
Reca and I have been working on a new feature for the front page. Currently we are working on an application that will display Twitter on the front page.
For those who don't know, Twitter is a way for people to share what's going on in their lives with very short messages. The mundane usually consist of "Sitting down for dinner now," and "Going to bed."
In the tradition of providing cutting edge law enforcement content at OfficerResource.com, we have a "Police Ride Along" Twitter feature. By watching the front page (when the app is up) or by just visiting the Twitter page at https://twitter.com/PoliceRideAlong you can "Ride Along" with an officer working patrol in a city. During the officer's shifts there will be updates based on what's going on around him. A "real time" snap shot of life on the street from a cop's perspective.
If you have a Twitter account you can get notifications of the posts, as they happen. OfficerResource.com members are encouraged to sign up, follow, and interact with the officer.
I'm not aware of anywhere else that gives this kind of insight into the moment by moment goings on of a police shift.
Keep your eyes on the front page, we hope to have the app working in the next few days. In the meantime I wanted to get the ball rolling for you here.
Go visit the Twitter page at https://twitter.com/PoliceRideAlong and sign up to follow and interact.
I hope you enjoy! That which does not kill me, better start fucking running.

Great idea!
Looks interesting. All the fun of a ride-along, without the danger!

Police Officers put themselves at risk for strangers every day. Some do not make it home to their families. Next time you think of saying something negative about the police, remember...YOU are one of the strangers.

This is still ongoing and we are working out the technical issues for the front page.

Great idea!

Bump for this. It's a great idea in so many ways. Advertising for O/R among the LE career minded and public outreach to those unwitting souls who think a LEO's job is all cops-and-robbers fun like they see on TV. I need a reminder myself at times; it's easy to lose sight from a distance.
So heck, even I created one of them there Twitter accounts to follow and support it. Been against using Twitter, but why not? Worth it for this. Might follow a porn star for variety, I hear they tweet a lot.
One throw away yahoo address later there it is. Easy enough. Even let me pick a completely fake "real name" without complaints. Sign up to see what I picked
Feed them crap : they don't seem to care.
No barrier to entry is the point, and no reason you need to share anything that will trace back and cause you trouble down the road. Seems a good idea and I want to see it flourish as an O/R feature.
