Computer savy people, can you help?

The last several months my yahoo messenger has been acting up. It will be working fine and dandy, and then all of the sudden replies from the other people stop coming. Yeah yeah, I know what you're thinking. "Maybe they just stopped talking." :doh:

But if I sign off, and then log back in, all their messages come in the form of offline messages. They get mine, but I can not receive theirs. It doesn't give us any error messages or any indication that something is wrong until this happens. It does it on MSN as well, but not nearly as much.

I have checked my security settings to the best of my abilities and it says yahoo and MSN are both enabled. Does anyone have any idea what could be wrong? Virus scan comes back clean.

Delete all your Yahoo stuff and then download it fresh and reinstall it.

Try going into your system and killing all your cookies and such.....

Then turn the computer completely off.....wait about 5 mins.....then start it back up....

Go to the start menu, and select control panel, add/remove programs, and find yahoo messenger, select remove, and it is gone. Might want to save your contact list somewhere first

Reinstalling seems to have worked guys, thanks!

ETA: I did write down the contact list but incidently when I reopened it, the list was still there. Hope I did it right. It seems to be working, but we'll see.

The contact list should be stored online with her account information.

Thougt mine was too, until the computer trools stole it.

Oh, the horror.

Your probably low on memory when that happens. Hit alt, ctrl, del and see what programs are running. You really only need explorer if that is your browser, systray (do not delete), and your internet provider. I would imagine if your using firefox that should appear as a program running instead of explorer.

If each time you reboot and these other programs are running in the alt, ctrl, del. box then you haven't removed them from your task bar. The alt, ctrl, del. is just a temporary fix.

Sometimes you should unplug your computer when you turn it off. When the light goes out in the back then you know it is off, at that point you can replug your computer and turn it on.
