    The Difference Between The Rookie and The Veteran Cop:

    1. Rookie: Loses his lunch at a homicide scene.
    Veteran: Eats his lunch at a homicide scene.

    2. Rookie: Uses McDonalds drive-thru so he won't miss a call.
    Veteran: Spends 45 minutes drinking coffee at Dunkin Donuts.

    3. Rookie: You can't read his name plate because it's polished so
    brightly.
    Veteran: Doesn't wear one for liability reasons.

    4. Rookie: Puts too much into reports.
    Veteran: Doesn't put enough into reports.

    5. Rookie: Loves foot pursuits.
    Veteran: Makes the rookie do the foot pursuits.

    6. Rookie: Is given 40 hours of training on communications at the
    academy.
    Veteran: Was given 40 rounds of ammunition when he left the academy.

    7. Rookie: Wants everyone to know he is a cop.
    Veteran: Doesn't want anyone know he is a cop.

    8. Rookie: Loves to find stolen vehicles.
    Veteran: Doesn't care about stolen vehicles, unless someone is in it.

    9. Rookie: Can spot an expired tag at 50 yards.
    Veteran: Can't spot anything at 50 yards.

    10. Rookie: Spends 2 hours on follow ups.
    Veteran: Gives follow ups to detectives.

    11. Rookie: Thinks every death is a homicide.
    Veteran: Thinks every death is a suicide.

    12. Rookie: Calls brass by their rank.
    Veteran: Calls brass by their first names.

    13. Rookie: Carries a laptop computer.
    Veteran: Writes on his hand.

    14. Rookie: Checks out deserted spots in hope of finding a drug deal
    in progess.
    Veteran: Checks out deserted spots in hope of finding a place to
    sleep.

    15. Rookie: Uses lights and siren to get to a fight in progress call
    quickly
    Veteran: Uses lights and siren to disperse fight in progress before he
    gets there.

    16. Rookie: Uses radar for vol. compliance
    Veteran: Uses radar vol. to take a nap

    Number 15 was one of the first thing's I learned. I've went lights and sirens right up to the fight scene.

    Me: "i'll be damned, their gone."
    STI: "Wow, who would have thought. so, where to for lunch now?"
