Ford rolled out the new Police Interceptor today.
The New Ford Police Interceptor
Not sure if i like it.If you have no capacity for violence then you are a healthy productive citizen, a sheep. If you have a capacity for violence and no empathy for your fellow citizens, then you have defined an aggressive sociopath, a wolf. But what if you have a capacity for violence, and a deep love for your fellow citizens? What do you have then? A sheepdog, a warrior, someone who is walking the hero's path. Someone who can walk into the heart of darkness, into the universal human phobia, and walk out unscathed." "The sheep generally do not like the sheepdog. He looks a lot like the wolf. He has fangs and the capacity for violence. The difference, though, is that the sheepdog must not, cannot and will not ever harm the sheep. Any sheepdog who intentionally harms the lowliest little lamb will be punished and removed. The world cannot work any other way, at least not in a representative democracy or a republic such as ours."

The new Caprice will outperform it, in that case.

I wonder if the exploding gas tank design is still included? It's just not a Ford police car if cops aren't burned to death.

Looks small... Wish they had just kept the vic. The new Caprice is intriguing.

I've heard the "EcoBoost" V6 option is pretty powerful. I like it, looks streamlined, and I've seen the new Tauruses on which it's based, they're a lot bigger than I would have thought.

It's a fucking Taurus.

So - Ford is pushing a FWD V6 on us . . . . again. Luckily, the interior will be too small and visibility will be reduced to make up for the lack of durability and handling problems inherent with the drivetrain. Awesome.A Holiday From Wishful Thinking
Beyond the Top 10
Here are some of my biggest letdowns this year:
1. Ford Taurus
Looks are deceiving for the Taurus, whose modestly handsome styling disguises the most disappointing car I tested this year. The Taurus could get the award for World’s Biggest Small Car: it seems enormous on the outside, claustrophobic on the inside, with poor exterior sightlines and an paucity of rear legroom for taller adults. The final backhand came from my wife, taken aback by the Taurus’ old-fashioned, floaty road manners. “I thought America stopped making cars like this,” she said.
Go suck a dick, Ford. With all due respect.

It is indeed an AWD car, and it is indeed a Taurus.
It will run rings around the current CVPI, but then Ford would never be my first choice to begin with.

I like the Caprice as well. I'm glad to see Carbon Motors building a true Police vehicle, but I want to see it in action before I decide if I'm a fan.

Standard is FWD. AWD is an option - nice and cheap I'll bet. Also higher-maintenence (change one tire, change them all, plus more complex system). The turbo is also an option, which will make it screaming fast - something I don't care even a little about.
I'd rather have a reliable car that tops out at 130 than a super-fast car that's: A) in the shop B) too expensive for my PD to buy enough of C) new technology that isn't widely available (see A), D) too small for me and my equipment E) too small to fit my prisoners into F) hard to se out of - especially once you get a cage in it F) uses a completely different set of part, so the city garage can't get them G) an unproven design.
Did I mention Ford could go suck a crank?
They're putting a major fucking on police departments for the sake of gas mileage and making more money on aftermarket. What I have now works, and has worked for years. It's a known quantity. It's not ideal - but it's the best compromise out there. This replacement is a piece of shit from what I've seen. It will be trouble. Mark my words.

I agree with SPD. FWD has had a very poor reception in LE the last few years. I predict the Charger and Caprice are going to eat a lot of Ford's market share, if not most of it.

I really don't know a lot about cars. In my LE career I've driven a Dodge Ram hemi and a V-8 Ford Crown Vic. A squad is a squad, and I'm a little guy so both of them are plenty roomy for me.
Anyway, all I know is if this new model has the fucking door lock switched around I'm gonna fucking snap.
For the first couple months after getting my 09 squad I kept unlocking the already unlocked door because the switched the button around. No one has greater love than this, to lay down ones life for ones friends - John 15:13

Front wheel drive isn't holding up to police work. It's been that simple; too much time, too many repairs. The other thing is that most agencies I'm aware of have had to do a front wheel transition, because there's enough differences in how they handle. Which means time lost to put them into service. And problems when people either cut it short or skip it entirely...
The car looks interesting in some ways... but it's a company hype site. Of course it looks good there. Let's see how it does in some decent testing by cops -- and how it holds up on the street.Voting against incumbents until we get a Congress that does its job.

I have had a lot of Police cars over the years... 91, 97, 00, 06, 07 CVPI, 92 Caprice, 01 Impala, 03 and 04 Intrepid.
By far, the Impala was the worst. The Intrepid was impressive, except the brakes. The constant has been the CVPI. Not the fastest, not the most comfortable, but the most dependable.
I look forward to Ford bringing new technology. Definitely need better gas mileage, and will need even better eventually.
Police cars will all go V6 eventually... whether naturally aspirated or with a power adder.
Dodge won't last (the company)... and Chevy is a toss-up.

I won't be surprised if we see cop cars go some sort of hybrid route once they lick some of the technical issues and the battery size. After all, we spend a lot of time sitting, we spend a lot time at low speeds... and creeping up in a near silent car could be useful. Then kick into a big/fast engine when the electric won't do. Not saying the hybrids are ready yet -- but I see it coming.
