CRAZY FLOWER EXPLOSION!!!
Our daturas have done well this year. This is two of the plants.
Yes, this is one individual plant. Note the white flowers starting to come out.

The main plot has one also.

Between the two plants there are over 30 blooms coming on.
One ready to pop. These literally "burst" when they open. The aroma is like tropical fruit.

I hope to take a few pics before it gets too dark and post the beautiful flowers in full bloom.

THOSE CRAZY BEES!!!
A freak of cross pollination.
This is a spaghetti squash cross pollinated with a zucchini.

DATURAS
Twenty minutes later
I counted 40 blooms.

You should be here to smell this. Very soft tropical fruit. It is just still enough outside right now that standing between these two plants is like heaven!

Todays Harvest
Current weather is a more tolerable 75 during the day and 60 at night. The green beans are starting to recover but the rest of the crop is pretty much done.
The "Zughetti" squash will be interesting to see how they cook up. A few okra, tomatoes and perfect green beans.

A few green beans, our first fall radishes and okra.

The beans are still going crazy. Okra does not like the cool weather.
We will be pulling all of the peppers and tomatoes in the next ten days.

When I was a kid we would pick the hibiscus flowers and suck the nector out of the stem. We were taught to do that in school

"It's a great life. You risk your skin catching killers and the juries turn them loose so they can come back and shoot at you again. If your honest , your poor your whole life. And , In the end , you wind up dying all alone on some dirty street. For what? For nothing. For a tin star."
Far from being a handicap to command, compassion is the measure of it. For unless one values the lives of his soldiers and is tormented by their ordeals , he is unfit to command.

While grilling the other night I took some pics.
Looking east up the bean fence.

Cosmos on the back fence.

Cannas, one of our bigger plants. I am guessing well over 11 ft.

Collards in front of our morning glory "wall".

The Cardinal Climbers did well this year. The hummingbirds love them!

Wall pockets on the garage.

Sorted a few green beans. These were blanched and frozen.

Pulled all of the serranos and jalapenos.

Wrapping up 2010
One of the last days that we were still harvesting.
Radishes

We sliced these and dipped in kosher salt. Despite their size, they were actually tender and not too hot.

The fall greens hung in there. It was nice to have this late crop.

Of course all is under snow right now. We are supposed to get 6-10 inches of snow tomorrow. To Live Is To Eat
