Southland
WTH happened to "Southland?" I was all excited that it was gonna be on, and it's gone again! I don't ask for much!
For the morning will come. Brightly will it shine on the brave and true, kindly upon all who suffer for the cause, glorious upon the tombs of heroes. Thus will shine the dawn.

From what I've been able to gather, the six episodes that recently aired had already been produced for NBC but NBC didn't bother to air them. TNT bought the rights and the eps, then aired the six as the second season. TNT has ordered ten more episodes that will start airing January 2011.

TNT was running them on their site during the season. Down already?

yeah, all they have is the last one up - which doesn't help if you want to watch the whole season...

No repeats on TNT any part of the day or night through June 12 either. Guess they're trying to maximize those DVD, Amazon On Demand and iTunes sales. Though frankly at $2.99 for an iTunes download I can't really see it moving much product. $1.99 at Amazon for SD, but HD is right back to $2.99.
That's the frustrating part. Go the piracy route and you can have the HD versions the day of. And they're better quality than the ones you download because the pirates aren't worried about squeezing the file sizes down. (*Though with HD over cable the original bitrate is already low, over-the-air being near Blu-Ray)
So you get the DVDs. And they're nice looking, but now we're back to SD (standard definition - as set in the 1940s) If you want HD you either had to watch live, DVR it yourself, get the compromised HD download from iTunes or Amazon or wait another six months for the Blu-Ray. Another artificial wait period during which they hope you'll buy the DVD and then upgrade when the Blu-Ray comes out.
Nice mess.
Of course Limewire is likely to get you a letter from those fine folks at 'US Copyright Group', a collection of lawyers who don't want their names associated with their group, but do want ISPs to cough up the names associated with every IP that shows up on their lists. 'The Hurt Locker' case is getting a lot of attention because of the sheer number of downloaders they're going after, but what isn't mentioned is this is a common occurrence with all sorts of TV shows, even ones that originally aired on regular expanded cable.
Point? Forget if I had one, felt like venting. Oh yeah, don't use P2P unless you're getting linux ISOs.
BTW, did you know if you have Windows 7 Home Premium or higher (basically any version of 7 other than Starter) that you have kick ass DVR software built in? Just need a tuner of some sort. If that's something anyone is interested in I'd write up another post with more details.
