I noticed on my way in that the back lot has been fenced/gated.

The lot is the employee parking for a paint store. Supposedly the corporate headquarters told them it was a liability to let the bar patrons use the lot at night. In the 15 years that I have been going there, I have never heard of any troubles. The bar staff actually patrolled the lot at night. This eliminates about two dozen parking spots. That leaves only street parking and would push customer parking another two blocks out from the bar. I spoke to both of the owners and they said Blues On Grand - LIVE BLUES Tuesday through Saturday will not exist as it is after October 21st, 2010.

The Day The Music Died
Approximately 800 people were in attendance last night. The bar was at capacity (200) less than 30 minutes after the door opened. The side street was closed off. Speakers and a projection screen were set up outside for the overflow.

Must have been bittersweet, to be part of the end of an era.

Scenes from the last night
As I arrived, Matt Woods was outside. Matt Woods Music - Blues & Boogie

The outside had a food vendor and a big screen that was going to broadcast the music. About 200 folding chairs were set up.

Inside, the Blues Hall of Fame wall was replaced with the archive of all the shows since the Blues On Grand opened.

There were about 60 people in line before the doors officially opened.

A new owner has taken over and is in the process of gutting and remodeling. He said it was going to be a typical neighborhood bar with music one or two nights a week. They were supposed to be open 3 weeks ago.
All of the local bands have found other venues except Matt Woods. The sound man took his equipment and set up at All Play | Home. They have a conference room/bar setup. The national acts that played Blues On Grand will be playing there on Fridays nights. To Live Is To Eat
