Quitting Smoking
Well, I've been talking about it for years. I finally made the decision to quit smoking.
Last month on our second anniversary my husband, Joe and I started on Chantix. We both were smoking a pack and a half a day, driving over to Kentucky every other week to buy 4 cartons of cigarettes, coughing every morning when we got up
and feeling worse all the time. So we decided to help each other quit. In the past month I've gotten down to 3-4 cigarettes a day and he is at about 7-8 a day. Come next Monday is our final quit date. Aside from a little nausea for about 15 minutes after taking it and unbelievable dreams (some really weird dreams let me tell you!!!) the Chantix seems to be working pretty darn good, I mean we are both quitting at the same time and we are still married and no major withdrawl symptoms
.
I'll keep you posted on how the quitting progresses.
My dad, I miss him every day.

Congrats and good luck.
I was a 1 1/2 - 2 pack a day smoker and went cold turkey after 10+ years the day I started with my current agency.

Congrats and good luck. You may find that quitting smoking is the best present you gave yourselves, and to each other.

You can do it. I stopped smoking about 12 years ago cold turkey. Never looked back. It was bad for the first two weeks. Every day after that got better and better.

I smoked for about 15 years when I finally quit. About 2 or so packs a day. Best thing I ever did. Best of fortune to you and yours.

Thank you all for the support. So far it hasn't been too bad, the Chantix is really working and after smoking since I was 10 years old I was worried about the withdrawls but so far so good, course I haven't completely stopped but I know that I can and will!! (I guess that means I'm pretty determined, lol)

UPDATE:
Well, it was extremely difficult to finally put them down for good. We got down to one a day, then one every other day and finally we put them down for good on Jan. 16th. Still struggling every day not to have just one more but we are each others support system.
@ Bayern-yes the dreams were something!

Thanks, I have found there are certain times when the cravings are the worst and I try to keep busy during those times. Now I have to work on losing the weight that I gained by not smoking

Congrats!! The dreams generally seem to be the worst of it from what I've gathered and Chantix has a pretty good success rate comparatively.

Keep a supply of toothpicks, mints, and gum on hand. No matter what the craving feels like, it's only temporary. Now is the time to toss any hidden stashes of smokes out. Dont linger or say good-bye to them, toss them like a dead mouse in a mousetrap.

I quit a long time ago. If I can do it, so can you!
