As a patrolman on nights, almost never. As a patrolman on days, probably 50% of the time.
As a watch commander, almost every shift, nights or days, worse on days.
As a detective, it was not all that common but getting called back out was.
In my current job running communications and detention, I get here early and stay late almost daily.*************************"It wouldn't take much for me to up and run...to another life somewhere in the sun."

When I worked for the Sheriff's Department it happened all the time. We had about 456 sq miles to patrol and it was not rare to get sent on a call about 45 minutes away with 15 minutes left in your shift. (SUCKED).
Now with the City I work for it does not happen very much just a few times a year and if I do have to stay it is for a very short time!Check your feelings at the door!

Happens about 2-3 times a month.

At current staffing levels (read: no part time help) it happens almost once a week on days, and once a month on nights.

On days amd swings it was happening a few times a week. We shall see on nights now. I hope so. I like OT. Reca. Your old county was small. My old county was just under 4000 square miles.
