Judicial Malfeasance?
I'm angry. Just saying. Walking this line takes a special kind of crazy. I'm not being insulting. Every cop out there knows what I'm talking about. Only it's one kind of burden to be a badge carrier, it's another to stay on the sideline and watch. When awful things happen to LEO's they are not the only victim. An incident happens. A cop loses and is laid to rest. We know the risks. That's a one time victim. However, who remains victims over and over again when the memory of a fallen loved one edges out of the shadows and into the fore front of their mind? Wives, Husbands, Mothers, and Fathers that's who. Only they are adults and will try and possess a larger level of understanding at what and how things have happened to cause that loss. What about the young sons and daughters? Mere children who see their hero fathers and mothers dress up in their uniforms and go out each shift to go catch the bad guys. What do they understand? Nothing. They don't understand Mommy or Daddy isn't ever coming home again. Will the killer explain why? The defense attorney? How about anyone from the DA's office. No. This responsibility falls on the surviving family. A family who are struggling, already trying to make sense of a tragedy and make their way through the feelings of despair and anguish. Make their way they will. Again and again. But try as they might to make some kind of sense to a child all the child wants to know is when is mommy or daddy coming home again.
With the staggering number of law enforcement officers killed and or injured since the beginning of 2011 I call out to the judicial system. Stop playing with offenders. Not limited to but especially the most violent and repetitive of offenders. For the sake of cops who do jobs no one else will, their significant others and their children, knock it off. It seems more and more media end their cop killing stories identifying the offender who has a “lengthy criminal history”. Stop slapping them on the wrist and turning them back out on society to locate and offend future victims. Stop placing those of us, who stand between offenders and the victims, directly in harms way. That's right I said directly. We know these criminals and so does the system. If the system won't stand for the officers then don't be so fast to condemn them when they stand for themselves. Believe it or not the public is required to act within certain rules as well.
We know we have rules and higher standards. Cops may be held to a higher standard than others but they have families to go home to. So therefore “we” stand by rule #1. I will do what is necessary to go home to my family at the end of my shift. There is nothing in my job requirement, the law or any expectation thereof that says it's okay for me to be injured or killed simply because a I am a cop. I know. I've checked. This is something deemed acceptable by the judicial system. Well, in that case, when will the judge, ADA or defense attorney have to go to a LEO's residence and try and help a young child understand why another monster was allowed to walk the same street as their mother and father? How will they look a once innocent child in their eyes and explain the reason their hero mommy or daddy isn't coming home. They can't and they won't. The judicial system is far too aloof and detached and not held accountable except on election day. We all know how that works. They can't because God forbid they have to deal with the emotion of that child. Because the one who can, without emotion, is a cold soul indeed. Dealing with the emotion, confusion, and tears of a cops little one might actually wake someone up. Careful. That can't be allowed.
As I said, I am angry and so are a lot of other cops so I am trying especially hard to keep this writing diplomatic. The judicial system is the custodian of justice for ALL victims and potential victims. With the headlines of late the keepers of the system may very well be guilty of malfeasance at this point.
May God bless and keep the Wives, Husbands, Mothers, Fathers, and especially sons and daughters of our fallen Homeland heros. He might be the only one who gives a damn.Do not war for peace. If you must war, war for justice. For without justice there is no peace. -me

Read this when freshly posted, read it again and it still strikes me the same. I was too embarrassed to say so the first time around, but that's the finest prayer I've heard for quite some time.

well said brotha - stay safe across that River
and forget mailing it to the Judges... send it to the ones who hire the judges and the DA's... =/-=Twan007

Thanks James. I don't think anyone could have said it better.

Great post, brother.
And Shepards we shall be,
for thee, My Lord, for thee,
Power hath descended forth from Thy hand,
That our feet may swiftly carry out Thy Command.
So we shall flow a river forth to Thee
And teeming with souls will it ever be.
