Intuition...
In the last few months I have started to realize the value of the "little voice in the back of my head". Basically that was the voice that I ignored when I did every stupid thing in my life.
In the last while I've really started to be able to listen to it and realize what it is and then make a conscious decision. It's still hard to explain.
Did anyone else have a "moment of clarity" when you learned to listen to your own brain or did it just happen one day or nothing at all?Don't hit at all if it is honorably possible to avoid hitting; but never hit soft. -

Ya, I try to listen to the little voice in my head if its trying to tell me something and normally it really helps with things, even if its the decision thats the harder of the two, its normally works out.
There’s a promise I need you to make
While I’m gone you take care of the love
And I’ll deal with the hate.
Don’t worry about me; I’ll be all right
Just care for your children and sleep tight
I’ll keep you safe on my watch tonight

My voice usually says "ummm... bad idea!" and I usually ignore it.

I don't think you actually get that until after college. So I got a little while before it kicks in.

A great LEO has an "instinct". Some call it common sense, but I think there is a difference. Instinct kicks in, and common sense follows. Some have it, and others don't. Those who don't, usually won't last, but it has to be said, we have all known some who have the instinct, but lazy as hell, and just drawing their check. Other LEOs go hell bent for leather. Give me that kind of LEO anyday,,,,,with instinct.

Go ahead run...I'll even give you a head start!
When the public needs help, they call the Police.
When the Police needs help, they call SWAT.
When SWAT needs help, they call K-9!

To be serious about this topic, there was a study done by real doctors and stuff, they studied LEO abitlities to use there 6th sense or psychic ability or whatever you want to call it. It freaked alot of the cops out because their ability to find out information just by thinking was higher then most. I will try to find this study and post it.

There's nothing "psychic" about it. It's a skill that can be developed, just like any other. I agree that cops who don't have the desire to never have it, but disagree that those that don't have it never will.
When I train younger guys, one of the roll-playing games I teach them is to play "What's wrong with this picture?"... similar to that old Sesame Street game "These three things belong together, one of them doesn't belong". Look at any street scene, and ask yourself what doesn't fit, or what 'just looks wrong'. After awhile, you'll start to see lots of things you never noticed before.
It's sounds silly, but it really does work.
Intuition is just your experience talking to you. Your brain recognizes something, it just doesn't quite know what to name call it.

There's no magic shortcut, and not everyone develops the ability. Some only due it in a tunnel-visioned way. They may be able to spot a drunk as soon as they see the headlights, but wouldn't notice if he had 50 pounds of weed falling out of the car, for example. I'm not impressed by a guy who brags about all his arrests, and they're almost all for the same couple of offenses. What's he missing in his tunnel-visioned quest? He's also the guy who's liable not to realize when it's about to hit the fan, unless it happens to fall into the narrow scope of things he looks for.
