    Yay. It's f%^$ing tax time!

Ok, I'm single, don't own a house, don't have any kids. I make good money, and I rent a nice condo. I claim 1 freaking deduction. I don't have a lot of line item deductions, and I don't use a "tax guy," so I can file with a 1040EZ. My federal return will be a whopping $260 some odd dollars. I haven't even bothered to figure state yet....not a lot of motivation to figure out what the figure will be.

My girlfriend's deadbeat sister (her words, not mine) has two kids, each from a different dad, lives in Section 8 housing, and works around 20 hours per week. They get free healthcare for their themselves and their kids from the .GOV, they have nice stuff, yet their kids are clothed in Salvation Army rags. She relies on my girlfriend to shuttle her and her kids around, is on food stamps, and is filing jointly with her husband who is also a deadbeat. They're probably claiming the maximum amount of deductions. Together their federal return is slated to be just over four grand, plus whatever several hundred they get from state.

Here's the lesson! Work hard, be a responsible young, single adult and pay through the nose. Have a litter of kids with a couple different dudes, shack up with the most recent one, and work juuuuust enough to stay afloat and collect the government dole, and look forward to a nice little bonus after Christmas!

Welcome to America...the land of the inflated teat and the culture of entitlement and enabling.

Yeah the Feds take a good 1/4th of our salary, and yet are $14 Trillion in debt with a $2+ Trillion budget and $1 Trillion deficit.

I figure my little contribution will finance the Federal government for one-tenth of one second, but that's not including the service on the $14 Trillion debt which the Fed Reserve is absorbing temporarily. Actually, I'm shocked it's even a tenth of a second.

And yet Obama wants to delay and spread infinitesimally small spending cuts over several years (meaning that he'll leave it to someone else to make the hard cuts), and wants to spend even more on his green projects which cannot support themselves under fair market conditions, and wants to build trains that no one will ride because they'll be slower than airplanes, yet have the same security measures.

If the Republicans raise that damn spending limit, I swear it will be the death of this country.

PS - We don't have a State income tax in Texas, so that's one less thing to do However, my property taxes are $2,000+ per year (mostly school taxes), and we don't even have kids. I think we should have an exemption from that for not having kids, since the people with kids get Federal income tax exemptions for each kid.

I can't complain. We have no kids and we usually get back at least around $1,000 or so. I'm hoping this year we'll get a little more since we have a house. I use a really good tax guy who does the taxes for most of the LEO's in this area.

We used to normally get back at least a grand. Thanks to the changes in the tax system, this year we owe about a grand. Fortunately state owes us, so the difference will buy us dinner somewhere, or half a grocery trip.

121, it's happening to a lot of folks this year.

Witholding was lowered to make people think they made more money along with the "making work pay" credit, which is about a funny name as it gets because it was paid to people who did not owe taxes.

It looks like I might get a whopping $400 or so back of the more than $8500 I paid in. Tickle me pink with giddy and excitement!!!

    $2900 back from Feds.
    $600 back from State.

BUT, that's because I have my witholdings set at 1 dependent. I did that on purpose because there were (are) threats of pay cuts if certain cop hating people get elected to council. That way, I can adjust my deductions to the three dependents I can claim, and moderate the damage to my take home pay, losing any refund.

Well then then you would just love my $3500/yr property taxes plus a 1% income tax that goes mostly to the schools and they're upset we just turned down a levy that would have increase them another $400.00.

It appears they owe me $4796, and because of the late changes to the tax law I have to wait to even file until February 14th.

Wonder if I can get *them* to pay me interest...

You need to find a tax man that knows all of the deductions you can use.

I claimed my haircuts, cell phone and some other things. You can use mileage to extra jobs and food bought during those extra jobs. I'll be saving receipts this year.

Also, I switched departments back in June and I had to by ALL new leather. I also claimed all of that. They told me I could claim any bullets I bought that I brought to the range.

I seriously can't make my line item deductions add up to more than the 1040EZ lump deduction.
