Neighborhood Watch

Anyone have any neighborhood watch information/ideas/etc they could share? My neighborhood is full of old folks who are talking about installing surveillance systems in the area, and I'm trying to find ways to talk them out of the expense and legal issues that would involve So far I've got increased lighting, publication of the police non-emergency number so people will call, and an anonymous reporting web site for information about possible criminal activity. Thanks for any ideas

We give out stickers to members to place on their properties to deter burglaries. We also put up signs in the area advertising the fact that a scheme perates in the area, again for deterrence.

Local officers attend meetings with the members and mark property for them etc. and dispense crime prevention advice.

Most agencies now have volunteers on patrol. You might tell them to get ahold of their local police agency and ask if they have that service.
