Hi gang....
Sorry I haven't been around much, I've been having some serious problems dealing with my former partner's suicide...it's bringing back issues that I thought had been laid to rest a long time ago.
I'm trying to remember the good times....like the time he lured a goose into my patrol car. I got in and almost had a heart attack!
Just taking it day by day....
I thought I'd share one of my favorite memories of us if that's okay:

Just take it a day at a time. Eventually the pain will heal

A little tool I've used for many years when dealing with bereavement is to suggest to those grieving that every time they think of the one they have lost, think of a time they really made you laugh, and mentally re run the video of that event - it certainly works for me and I think that the goose incident sounds like a good example.
Keep smiling.A common mistake made when trying to come up with a totally foolproof design is to completely underestimate the innate ingenuity of fools.
The last thing I want to do is hurt you but it's still there on my list of options, so are you coming quietly.........?

I carry a little bit of those I've lost with me on every shift, every day.
As these guys have said, the times you had, what you've learned from them, and the smiles you've shared are both priceless and timeless.
Prayers sent. May your heart be warmed by the fond memories you posess, and may you find a peace about the loss, knowing that what you have gained from the experiences shared will never fade in all your days.

You have my sympathy and empathy. My partner and best friend died of cancer in 2007. Knew him for about 30 years. He was 58. The cemetary he is buried in is on my beat. Every shift I make a report to him. Just makes me feel happy, better. Like he knows he is still part of the job.
You know, those that died have the easy part. Those of us left behind have the hard part. We have to go on living with the memories and the pain of death. We tend to focus on that instead of all the good in the lifetime we had with them. Thats what you should focus on. Celebrate the life with them. Give thanks for what you had, not for what was out of your control and taken away."Weakness of attitude becomes weakness of character."
Albert Einstein
