Fair warning
Fair warning. I am fixing to start writing the hell out of Move Over citations on 65. For those of you who don't know, AL and several other states have instituted a law requiring passing vehicles to move over a lane when there are emergency vehicles on the shoulder, or (in AL) at least slow down to 15 mph under the speed limit. Apparently they are not aware of this law in AL and I am about to edumacate them.

I am not aware of the law here. It sounds like common sense to yield 1 lane to any roadside/shoulder activity, emergency or not.

Being that many driver's are quite sensative, after the citation is issued, please ask them to buckle up and have a nice day! How many times my cover has been blown off due to rigs passing my traffic stop. Maine does have a yield law but there is no law requiring the driver to move over one lane. Of course they are suppose to be alert and cautious of what is going on around them, "that works".
Few years back I actually stopped and individual and issued a summons because he was reading the newspaper while driving to work! Had the darn thing opend up as it rested across the steering wheel.
Great law and enforce it to the max!

The last LEO that was killed in my county was a trooper who was struck by a Fedex semi while on a stop on the interstate.
Our "move over" law is named after him.

I write this at least one a shift. Most of the time when I clear a stop on the interstate I will have one blow by while I am trying to get in the car.

I got pulled over for this a while back (2 years I think?)
I normally move to the opposite lane anyway whenever there is anything in the shoulder.
That time, I forgot what I was doing, but didn't notice the squad car until I was pretty close and I didn't have time to check my blind spot so I just stayed in my lane.
Guy pulled me over (rightfully so) and educated me on the fact that it was actually a law. But let me off with a warning.
I now am doubly vigilant for it, but never knew it was a law until that moment.
Stay safe!
