Motorcycle questions
As some of you know, I recently bought a motorcycle and could use some advice from someone more knowledgeable than myself. If there is someone who knows cruiser style bikes (mechanical, parts, that kind of thing) and is willing to help me out, I'd appreciate opening a dialog via PM. Thanks!

Rubber side down, shiny side up, wear the safety gear.
I ride a Kawasaki Mean Streak 1600 cruiser. EFI, water cooled, and shaft drive.

This is the only pic for now. 1996 Suzuki Intruder VS1400.

She was straight piped by a former owner and is loud enough that I don't like taking her through residential neighborhoods. If I open her up she blows your eardrums. I don't like loud. She needs a new seat and those pipes have GOT to go.\\` ` ` ` < ` )___/\

The seat will be easy to change; there are many aftermarket seats available. The pipes on the other hand, maybe not so easy. You can try Suzuki forums to see if anyone would want to swap your pipes for their stock ones.

I've got a lead on someone who is parting out a couple of bikes, and I have a bike junkyard a half hour away or so. My biggest problem is this is my first real bike (150cc scooters don't count) so I don't even know what to call most things, let alone how to fix them. Cars, sure, I'll monkey around and eventually come to the problem. Bikes are in some ways much more straight forward but the part names are way different and they don't look like they should.
Essentially, I'm a dumb newbie and need a course in basic maintenance and social skills.

For me the main differences were two things. One, it had a "wet" clutch, so you had to be careful about the type of oil and anal about changing it. (I have no idea if this is true on yours)
The other was if it was laid down, (or dropped in the driveway by my wife
) you had to "burp" the oil filter. An air bubble would stop the oil from flowing. Again, I don't know if this is true with yours.

Just measure the inside diameter of your pipes and buy some universal baffles. You can wrap the baffles with muffler packing (go to Dirt bike shop or Dennis Kirk.com) to get them even quieter. $30 fix.
