So I called Tech Support....
Normally I don't have to call tech support, but every once in a while I find myself gritting my teeth and picking up the phone. Today's issue was with my internet speed. I'm supposed to have (max speed) of 1.5Mbps. I've been getting reliably about 1/3 of that, so I figured what the heck & called. Got the requisite answer from Bangladesh (from someone with a surprising command of English for once) after arguing with the automated system, and I basically told them (AT&T) what my problem was. For a change, they didn't run me through all the diagnostic crap. They just checked my account and said "Yes, your modem seems to be the issue. It's eight years old." Poor thing just can't hack the new speeds. The tech couldn't get over how old it was, she said the oldest she'd dealt with before mine was only 5 years old. So they're overnighting me a new modem for cheaper I can get one from Wal-Mart, and I also went ahead and upgraded my service for a max speed of 3.0Mbps. Now I can do more useless things faster.
I think this is the first time I've had foreign tech support that didn't just wind up making me search out Prevacid and washing it back with Maalox.\\` ` ` ` < ` )___/\

AT&T is one of our competitors here (atleast they think so
). We stopped using out of country tech support for customers (employees, different story
) cause of the backlash. There were some good ones, but communicating was a big problem. Glad you got it all fixed.
