Doomsday stuff
So, obviously we're all still here.
And I'm the 2011 yearbook as "guy least likely to give a crap about the 'Maya prophecy'". But I'm really, REALLY not looking forward to working in December 2012. I was in high school in 2000, but I remember the decent amount of hysteria going on. My at the time girlfriend's dad worked for General Electric, and was absolutely convinced that the world would come to a halt. I know both of my departments (current and former) had EVERY officer on the department in a patrol call. To include the chief and all detectives. Must have sucked for New years Eve, as even the officers whose days off fell on new Years Eve were working forced OT.
I have the sneaky feeling that the entire month of December 2012 will be spent dealing with chaos caused by the "believers".
What say you?The world would be much cleaner if blind people carried brooms instead of sticks.
At communion, when the priest says "Body of Christ", I say "Thanks, I've been working out", then I grab the cracker and run back to my seat
An amateur practices until he gets it right. A professional practices until he cant get it wrong.
They've got us surrounded? Good. Now we can fire in any direction. Those bastards won't get away this time.

One of my partners and I were just talking about the Y2K thing last night. We had extra staff working, plus Auxillary people riding with everyone.
The hype leading up to it will likely dictate what we do."Like" us on facebook! https://www.facebook.com/pages/Offic...93147194083228

Some fool was predicting an earthquake on the New Madrid back in the late 80s or early 90s. Leave was cancelled for a week, we had a trailer out back of the PD for a temporary command center in case the building was wrecked, all kinds of other foolishness. That one never happened either.

What's supposed to happen in December 2012?

I'm waiting to hear what this guy says now that the world is still rolling with no catastrophes beyond normal.
And yeah, December will be the time for people who mainly want to act like idiots. It'll be the normal Silly Season with the added spice of whackjobs.\\` ` ` ` < ` )___/\

My calendar ends 12-31-2011. I think the world must be ending then.
The Mayans were carving their calendar in stone. The had to stop at some point and the poor bastards carved out like 5000 years and that's not good enough for us. We can put humans in space and communicate across the globe instantly but we can't figure out why someone didn't want to carve their fucking calendar in stone forever. That which does not kill me, better start fucking running.

Maybe they switched to a faster/better/cheaper technology and started cranking out clay cast calendars as an early example of disposable society, but they outsourced the kiln work and the calendars eroded away in the rain. We just thought they stopped at 2012 when really they cast up to 78,045

Kidding, but only so far. Werner Herzog (German film snob) has a new film out documenting the paintings in the Chauvet Cave. While listening to an interview it occurred to me that sure, a few people back in the prehistoric days took the time to harness fire, grind up some berries and find a cave to go paint in. I'm thinking the vast majority of artisans of the age did their work where it would be seen, whether for artistic or more utilitarian viewing. We have no "caveman" era street signs, but that doesn't mean there weren't any. More likely paintings on exterior rocks were extremely common. For all we know we may only be seeing the "for a good time call" restroom graffiti, perhaps even the pornography of the era. Or maybe the cave painters were the high end artists of the time. We just don't know, and as all speculation is done by what little survived we're told volumes about what some think based on their (utterly unbiased
) interpretation.
So yeah, I don't read much of anything into the Mayans stopping at a particular point; I can't be sure they did stop and I'll never know the why if they did indeed stop. Much more interesting to me would be to see all the stuff that didn't survive the eons.

Well I am old!
Seen the effects of theses idiots. Like Dec.1999. Even people I trusted as sane started buying into the crap. Went out buying food and water. Wanted to come to my house 12-31-1999 because I had the most guns to protect their families with. Uh, sorry. Go get your own. But thanks for letting me know where the food and water is thats easy pickins!"Weakness of attitude becomes weakness of character."
