Negligent Discharge
Just going to put this here:
I can't believe this guy posted this on youtube.

Well at least he had the nuts to say he screwed up. And this is with some level of training. I've seen this type injury several times.

I'd like to think that I'd be able to get over the embarassment and be able to say "I got careless and here's the result. Please learn from my mistake" like this guy did.

I would have been really impressed if he finished addressing the threat and did a failure to stop drill, holstered up and then limped off.

I will say that he manned up and said there was no one to blame but himself.

I wondered about that, especially since the moral of his story was "The reason that I share this is negligent discharges happen" Uh, ok, thanks? Sky is blue, rain falls down, Tardis is bigger on the inside: was he giving advice or stating one of life's truths?
The rest of his 700+ videos have views in the hundreds to low thousands. When life shoots you in the leg, get first aid then make lemonaid, and at 168000+ views it's working - this is YouTube gold. I'm surprised it doesn't have more and I was happy to give him a couple extra. He's probably a great guy and make no mistake, I'm not suggesting any shenanigans about the shooting, rather that he saw an opportunity afterward and took it. I respect his entrepreneurship in the matter more than the 'safety tip'.

"There is no 'nice' way to arrest a potentially dangerous, combative suspect. The police are our bodyguards, our hired fists, batons and guns. We pay them to do the dirty work of protecting us, the work we're too afraid, too unskilled or too civilized to do ourselves. We expect them to keep the bad guys out of our businesses, cars and houses, out of our face. We want them to 'take care of the problem.' We just don't want to see how its done."

I will keep my finger out of and indexed above the trigger guard until my sights are on target and I am prepared to fire.

I'm sorry, but I giggled when he said how his training took over and he called his parents, then 911, then dressed the wound.

That's why I don't like that Serpa-style lock. It seems to me as if it's inviting a finger to line up with the trigger as you draw... Just my opinion, and I know plenty of folks have drawn from one thousands of times without an ND, and partly shaped by my carrying Glocks with no external/independent safety.

The Serpa has issues other than this situation.

Grit or dirt can lodge under the paddle, locking up the weapon.
I've seen it happen to me once (was able to clear) and a fellow instructor watched it happen once (unable to clear.)
I whacked the ever loving shit out of it with my flat palm and it knocked the pebble or whatever loose.
It only really seems to happen to instructors or people in high speed schools where we end up on the ground.I'm your huckleberry...
