National Night Out
Tonight is National Night Out. Are there special events going on in your area? Does your neighborhood or department do anything to acknowledge NNO?

Yep! We have a park that's about 3 houses away and they have a big to-do there every year. Last year they did K-9 demonstrations.

Texas moved their NNO to October due to the heat. We do it in October now. There are usually a few events in the city I work in. We just moved into a new subdivision last week so I don't know what they do.

Same here. Last night it was 91 degrees at 8 oclock with about 60% humidity. NNO was ridiculously hot. Even with the heat, it has always been a big night for block parties here and all the brass/city leaders go around visiting. Crime Prevention hands out t-shirts and all kinds of other little goodies. This is our first year to have it in October. Besides, today is statewide election day and I doubt many people would celebrate NNO.

When you go to your local NNO, be sure to leave an armed guard at the house. Its like open house tours, here is what I have, come and get it.

Got home a bit ago from our local NNO. Was a lot of fun. They did a K9 demonstration again this year which is always awesome. Maybe it's just my sick sense of humor, but when they do this, all I can think is that they're telling the neighborhood "look at my dog. He WILL bite you. Do NOT run from me." It's like a preemptive strike. heh

Our paper made a big deal out of it, but within the dept. it was basically a non-event. I'm sure a majority of officers had no clue what it really was.
