Imprisoned Cop is a Hero to Many
Check out this CNN video. It's very moving. I know what happened was wrong, but personally, I think he should have been commended.

The link just goes to cnn and not to a specific story.

Maybe what the officer did was seen as being wrong in a few people's eyes but oh so RIGHT in many other's... including mine!

I can't see the video, but i be happy if I had a pertner do that for me!
Just because your sign off after you're shift is done, doesn't mean that it's over and put blinders on. You're a cop 24/7 wether you like it or not. If thats something you can't handle, you should find a new line of work!

He left the service as a hero. Nothing more needs to be said.

He also had the town behind him all the way it seemed. That is a good thing and says a lot about him. As magnum440 says he left as a hero!
It is better to be tried by 12, than carried by 6.

The phrase I'll always remember from Active Shooter Response.
To your partner:
"You'll either be going in to investigate an officer-involved shooting or to avenge my death".'The Art of War' teaches us to "Rely not on the likelihood of the enemy's coming, but on our own readiness to receive him"--Sun Tsu

Well, shooting a handcuffed prisoner is never good. Perhaps a better defense would have been temporary insanity and then a medical retirement.
He really did the world a favor. If you have to find a bright side, at least the judge was lenient and gave him a year.

Now this is a perfect thread for the private forum!
What I will say publicly, is that he should have been given a one year house arrest, or let off completely given the extreme circumstances and given the opprotunity to retire.

He should have moved his vehicle away so the camera was not facing him when he handled his business.

I may not have much right to comment on this not being a Verified LEO, but I will say that what's right and what's legal are not always the same thing.
If nothing else, he's a hero for standing up and admitting he did what was right, despite it's legality, then taking society's consequences.
I can only hope I would be strong enough to do the same."My motivation is slipping, people bug me, and I'm tired of wasting my time on drivel."
