How do you beat the heat?
With the thermometer hitting 106 here today, I was wondering how everyone combats the heat?
I installed a window unit to supplement my HVAC unit. It really, really makes a difference, especially once temps reach over the 100 mark. Outside, hubby got me a misting system (but mine has the expansion kit as well) and we tied it to the canopy supports on the A-frame of a now defunct porch swing. We then covered that with a plastic drop cloth to form a big pup tent type thing. It's open at each end and catches and funnels air through, so we have the mist with a little breeze. It turned today's 106 into a very comfortable 76, or at least that's what it felt like.\\` ` ` ` < ` )___/\

Heat doesn't bother me all that much. When it gets in the high 90's or low 100's with humidity it gets a little uncomfortable if I'm having to be active outdoors. If it's too hot for me I just try to stay inside as much as I can. I do drink a lot of ice water.
It's 97 with a heat index of 104 here right now.*************************"It wouldn't take much for me to up and run...to another life somewhere in the sun."

Just drink lots of water.
100* with 95% humidity is not unheard of around here. I'm 29 and grew up here, so I'm used to it.
Luckily I work at night, when it's a bit more tolerable.

103 here today. 105 tomorrow. I plan on staying out of it. Run in the morning and do yard work in the afternoon/evening. Stay hydrated and cool off with cold beer. Wash, rinse, repeat.

I shall consider this comparison an honor, nay borderline avatar worhty:
Cliff Clavin words of wisdom to live by:
"Well you see, Norm, it's like this...A herd of buffalo can only move as fast as the slowest buffalo. And when the herd is hunted, it is the lowest and weakest ones at the back that are killed first. This natural selection is good for the herd as a whole, because the general speed and health of the whole group keeps improving by the regular killing of the weakest members.
In much the same way, the human brain can only operate as fast as the slowest brain cells. Now, as we know, excessive intake of alcohol kills brain cells. But naturally, it attacks the slowest and weakest brain cells first. In this way, regular consumption of beer eliminates the weaker brain cells, making the brain a faster and more efficient machine. And that, Norm is why you always feel smarter after a few beers."

It was a balmy 68 here today. I couldn't sit as close as usual to the campfire at our friend's house. Made roasting marshmallows a little tougher than usual. Then we had to open the house windows because it was getting to be a stuffy 72 inside.

When I can, I go to the shore.
I try to do any outdoor activities early in the day and stay hydrated. I'm okay with the heat except when I'm trying to go to sleep, I can't sleep if it's too hot.

Central air is the best.
It's been hovering just below 100 here, but it is true what they say, dry heat is better. 95 is much better here with 8 percent humidity than 95 was in Virginia with 80 percent humidity.
