They don't necessarily WANT to be a State... As I recall, the issue has come up a few times, and they've chosen not to become a state.
If they meet all the criteria to be a state which I'm sure they do, I think it's up to the people of Puerto Rico. I'm with Jks9199 , I think the issue has been addressed in the past and the majority of the people were against statehood.
So they want their cake and want to eat it too?
They cant vote, pay federal income taxes but get full benefits of citizenship. Why become a state, they get it made.
One more third world economy we can absorb. Let's wait until we're finished with Mexico first.
Better yet let's trade them for #49, that way we keep an even 50.
