Robots assist police after barricaded suspect kills officer
After fatally shooting O'Rourke, Coley refused to surrender or communicate with police.
Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard said sending officers back to the upstairs of the home was something he was "unwilling to do without knowing (Coley's) status."
The Sheriff's Department instead sent in robots safely operated from a distance by law enforcers using remote controls.
"Our particular robot was on one of the doors and that's how they knew (Coley) was still in the house and alive, because he opened fire on the robot," Collins said.
More here: http://www.mlive.com/news/detroit/in...ntrols_he.htmlCollins said another robot was sent up. It entered the bedroom and used its camera attached to an extendable arm to hover above Coley and confirm he was dead.
