Severed snake head tries to bite

One of my coworkers got bit by a dead rattlesnake when he was a kid. When you kill a poisonous snake you have to bury the head because it's still dangerous. Even severed.

I've seen it happen in person. The nerves take a while to quit firing after death, just like the proverbial "chicken with the head cut off" and yes, the mouth will gape, the fangs will protrude, and if you're dumb enough to get close to its death throes, you can get bitten.
