Stuff like that rarely happens around here. We all work pretty well together. A handful of the troopers will go out of their way to avoid doing their jobs in the city...but generally it's not an issue.

I just always remember the location of the first harmful event determines who takes the wreck!!

Yeah he barrel rolled and was ejected in my city...but he hit the deer that caused the accident in the county. All yours buddy!

Doesn't happen a lot at the street level. Happens a whole lot between our dispatchers and the county's -- who can't seem to get the idea of where the boundaries are.

For the most part we do well with our boundaries. City, State and Parish usually back each other up fine.

Years ago a guy was chasing his girlfriend in a neighboring jurisdiction firing shots at her. She was not hit but started wrecking in that jurisdiction and came to rest in ours and she died. Between the wreck, DV case and homicide investigation, that was a nightmare. No arguing, just a huge PITA trying to figure who was going to work it. We wound up with it all. The wreck was bad enough-she went off a flyover and dropped 60 ft to the ground below.

Several years ago I was a passenger in a car involved in an accident in the parking lot of the Liberty Science Center. Each time we called one police agency, we were referred to another one. After calls to three (maybe four, I can't remember exactly) different agencies, the Park Police responded.

No arguing. Just have to kick enough of the debris across the border...

It's funny that the trooper uniform in the pic looks like the trooper uniform here.

It's funny because I had a State Patrol trooper tell me, like he was telling a funny story, about the time that he lit up a DUI driver on the interstate. The car pulled over, and struck a guardrail. This jackwagon actually told me, a city officer, that since the wreck happened inside the city limit, that he called our dispatch and had our guys take the crash paper.

I told him that he was lucky that I didn't respond, because to pay for his dodging the crash paper, I'd have listed him as an involved vehicle, and brought all THAT paper down on his head.

No debate about it here between the road guys, but dispatchers can occasionally muck it up.

My back fence is the city/county line. If I have to call in for shots fired in the vicinity, I have to try and figure out from which direction they originated, and then call the appropriate agency. If it's county, they may or may not care. The area in question is a bit notorious for suspicious activity, but as it's county, it's technically not illegal to fire a weapon. City will respond, but may or may not find anyone as typically after the gun play, the idiots scatter like seagulls (squawking and shedding crap everywhere.)
