I'd call it an abusive relationship for sure. I don't mean to minimize the type of abusive domestic relationships. But that doesn't mean the government isn't abusive.

Agreed. There should never be a minimizing of abusive domestic relationships. Domestic abuse arrests are, by far, my most favorite arrest. Since domestic abuse is such a serious crime, in my opinion, I certainly do not believe our government should be involved in one against their own people. The current level of our government is completely about power and control.
We see victims of domestic abuse powerless themselves to stop the abuse. I see the same thing here. I have serious doubt that enough of the American people can come together to change the entire system of government. I do hope I'm wrong but I don't see electing a new President from a different party as a fix. Can enough officials from different a different party(ies) be elected to cause a lasting effective change fast enough before the newly elected officials are corrupted? I just don't see it. Again, I pray I'm wrong.

Politicians are no longer (were they ever, not in my memory) about serving. It is about power. I'd say the same about an abusive domestic situation. The abusive partner wants power, the loving partners want to be there for each other, which is a form of serving each other I believe.
