Tasers
Just wondering how many of you guys and gals are using tasers and what kind of effectiveness have you had with them. Please feel free to share any stories that you have about using them. We got ours a little over two years ago. Used them twice. Once on a subject threatning suicide, and another drive stunned a guy involved in a fight. Fairly effective both times. They suicide subject had to be hit twice because he pulled one of the probes out the first time. He did urinate and crap himself though.

I am certified to use a taser, but the sheriff's office I work for now, only the supervisors carry them.
I used a taser several times, once it didn't phase the person at all, but the other times it worked very well. The one person it didn't phase, was on so many different things, they wouldn't have felt it if every bone in their body was broken.
I believe in the tasers!Any Post I make is my opinion only!
I do not have the authority or the permission to post for my Sheriff's Office.

When they work.... they work well.

My district was a pilot district for PO's to use tasers, but there is a law suit for some guy that died and it is on the back burner. Now only the Sgt's carry them, and I think some are afraid to use them, but when they are used they are a damn effective tool.

right now only supervisors carry tasers. our department was getting ready to expand the taser program to a few districts i was trained on the taser. a few days before we had our hands on one there was a fatality with a supervisor using a taser. so our department pulled our tasers limiting there use to only supervisors once again.
i quess that was taxpayer money well spent

We have had them for about two years. I've used mine about 13 times. It worked very well every time. Just recently we used it on a vehicle/ foot pursuit, once deployed the guy went down and crapped all over himself
. I don't think he'll be running from the police again any time soon since he was not very popular when we brought him to lock-up.

We use them alot.
On our dept. everyone gets certified to use them. We are now getting/using the new M26 taser. What's cool is that they have an attachment that clips to your gunbelt and has a holster that drops down and straps to your leg. You have your primary weapon on one side and a taser on the other. To the untrained, it kinda looks like you have two guns. Look like a regular gunslinger!
They work great most of the time with only the most chemically altered occasionally being unfazed.
I can't believe only supervisors can carry them on some of your departments. It is such a head-up-ass policy for supervisors to be the only ones to have certain weapons (tasers, long rifles, etc.) After all, who's most likely gonna need them (the line cop) and when they do need them how often are they gonna have the luxury of time to have the supervisor respond before deployment is necessary?
On my dept we used to have AR-15s available but they were always kept in the supervisor's vehicle or in the station armory and it seemed like a major hassle to get them deployed. Then the North Hollywood bank robbery / shooting happened. Now, every cop certified to use one can carry one in their car on patrol. God, this is such common sense it amazes me that it took an incident such as that one for the pussified execs to finally realize it.

I Am Talking About I Have Been Shot Before To Get Certified Because You Have To Get Hit With Pretty Much Everything That You Use In Idaho (looks Better In Court). It Hurts Alot

I see....
Well, since we're talking about what "looks good in court", don't say you've been "shot" with the Taser.
You've been "hit" by it, or "exposed" to it. Don't say shot. It sounds bad in court....

Our policy
Tasers are located just above Officer Presence/Verbal Command on our Use of Force Continuem sp. which is really nice.
I don't have one yet, though. I should be going to school soon to "ride the lighning." I'll be happy when it is over.

All officers carry them where I work. I've "drawn down" on a couple of guys, buy haven't had to use it, yet.

Best thing they ever came up with. We carry the "x" used to have the "m." I have used mine twice. Very effective.

Only firearms cops carry them in the UK they are used to fill a gap between CS or OC and using lethal force from a firearm. Mainly used on subjects with bladed or large blunt weapons that can't be CS'ed or man handled.

Every force in the UK has specialist firearms officers who form the SWAT teams and crew armed response vehicles to respond to ongoing firearms incidents. Typically 5 to 8 per cent of officers are trained to carry firearms.
Every officer of the Ministry of Defence Police and Civil Nuclear Constabulary are trained to carry firearms and typically 80% of them do at any particular time.
Every officer of the Police Service of Northern Ireland is trained in and carries firearms on duty.
Other officers, such as diplomatic and royalty protection and robbery squad officers are trained and carry firearms on duty.
So you have about 90% of UK officers who do not carry firearms. To the best of my knowledge no UK officer will carry a firearm off duty.
