Aircraft carrier sunk intentionally.
Sinking of the Oriskany 17-May-2006
The Oriskany, a decommissioned aircraft carrier, was sunk
24 miles off the coast of Pensacola, Fla., on May 17 to form
an artificial reef. The sinking of the 888-foot ship took 37 minutes
Site is slow to load at first, but well worth the wait, even if you're on dialup.

I read an article last week about it. I can't remember exactly how deep it is, but they did say that sport divers using mixed gas rigs could get down to the top of her tower.

Her deck rests at 132 - 134 feet, I believe, which is a bit lower than they were shooting for as the max depth for sport diving is 130 feet, after that it's deep water diving.

06-03-06, 03:30 AM #9The SMALL BOAT on the deck of carrier contains a generator and electronics to set off the explosions. It was designed so this small boat would float free after the carrier sunk.
