Taser used on Officer
I found this article about a Wichita, KS PD officer that had his taser used against him.

That is actually a really good media article about the Taser, and what it does.
I don't think it said it 'shocks" the person at all....and it never called it a "stun gun"No one has greater love than this, to lay down ones life for ones friends - John 15:13

We have one alleged former officer on this site that thinks tasers should be taken away from his fellow officers. Amazing....

I'm amazed. That was a well-balanced media report.
Thank God the situation didn't end with the officer losing his gun.

so safe, why are police departments banning
the practice of testing them on each other?

That’s pretty scary. Good reason for using deadly force. Would not want to be incapacitated by a Tazer then loose control of my weapon.

06-02-06, 06:21 PM #11Well, let's see. It is NOT required to be hit w/ a Taser to be certified, though they recommend some stepping forward to take the ride. Nor is it required for us to be shot with our handguns in order to carry them. Are we still safe with them and permitted to carry them on the streets? Absolutely.

The reason the departments are not "testing" them on their officers (a bogus statement in itself) is that there is a risk of minor injury that might interfere with them performing their duties or taking sick time to heal up from something that Taser does NOT REQUIRE in their training.
So, if it's not required, and my department requires me to take a hit to carry it, AND I fall wrong and get injured, you bet I would consider suing if the situation called for it. If I'm an administrator, I sure as hell am not going to accept that risk to satisfy some officers' curiosity, etc. But I'm also sure as hell not going to take that tool away from them, either!
This moron, like so many others in our society, envision a world without risks of any kind, where cops shoot guns out of hands or better yet, appeal to his inner child to resolve problems. They see a world where endless discussion of problems is the solution in itself and the warriors are ignorant brutes who should be locked in a cage. They see a world that just ain't there!
Odds are, this guy's a pinko-commie bed-wetter that in his heart of hearts wants cops and bad-guys shooting it out and people dying, because it feeds their agenda of woes and disasters that need "caring, understanding people to be in charge... like him."
Summary, this article is based on a faulty premise and oozes the ignorance of the author. I dismiss the entire thing from the first sentence. It was a waste of time to write and a bigger waste of time to read.

Taser
I did not mean to reignite the old should we have taser debate. I just thought it would suck to be hit in the nuts with a taser.
